2025/26 David Moyes

Yeah, just taking dumb risks is a great idea. It's worked out so well for us over the years.

Risk is becoming such an interesting topic.

If you look at us we were at serious risk after what 3-4 bad years of decision making of relegation and oblivion.

When you look at Spurs now - they are doing exactly the same and are at risk.

The margins for consequences to taking risks is getting smaller in the PL.

We’re living in a world were wealthy big established clubs in the PL, Villa, Everton, Spurs and Newcastle are a couple of years of bad decision making years from being in real trouble.

Margins are so tight.

Yeah, some people just don't get it. Lots of big clubs end up on their knees due to stupid decision making. For some reason, people think that one decent season and new investors mean we should get rid of the one person most responsible for the improvement in results. I wouldn't call them morons but I certainly wouldn't argue with that assessment.

But I don't want that to be the main focus of the club, simply developing players for other teams.

I'd rather focus on the players who are committed to a long term future here and want to win trophies for us.
Those don’t exist unfortunately. I mean you might find the occasional white whale but they mostly don’t exist.

The way certain people chop and change there opinions/stances on here are crazy.
Instead of just saying you see something different now.

That window is a good example..

If you stay around long enough mate - you see the same cycle repeating mate.

We've been here before with Moyes to Martinez - it was a breath of fresh air for a while - until it wasn't - then fast forward a few years and we were back to were we were before Moyes came in - fighting relegation.

We've lived through this already. There is an evidance base to it.

Find it fascinating psychologically.

Ultimately we need an innovative way to compete, as we cant go shoulder to shoulder with teams who can spend half a billion per window, we are certainly competing this season in my opinion considering the starting base.

He’s said he has the final say, not sure how it can be much clearer.

It was also reported that Barry had won the most headers in Europe outside the premier league so an ideal replacement for DCL that fits the Moyes game plan.
Barry was grabbed before the new set up was in place.

I mean that's what KDH is.

He's not looking to move on, he's here for his contract and maybe another and he's helped improve our team and win us points.

I want more of that and less projects to develop for other teams to enjoy.

How many trophies have Southampton or Brighton won doing what your propose?

I just can't reconcile it.

If he wanted them and signed off on every signing why won't he use them?

The simple answer is he didn't want them to begin with for me.
He said it himself that he has the final say on signings. Doesn't mean that he is the one scouting and making lists but he has the power to veto a potential signing.

Which begs the question of why he allowed the signings of Aznou and Dibling (around 50m spent) when he doesn't seem to trust them to be on the pitch whatsoever.

Depends on what the alternatives were!

3 of our best players are Pickford, Branthwaite & Garner who were all signed as young players.

I'm not sure any of them would push for a move and see them as 'proper Everton players'.

Armstrong looks like and Aznou in his cameo along with Dibling (for Southampton ironically) 'proper Everton players' as well.

Ive obviously mentioned the likes of Archie Gray, Chris Rigg and suchlike as those young English players that I'd see as those we'd love to watch for the long term.

Thesedays, I'm not sure theres going to be a huge amount of movement from our 'elite' players to other clubs.

Are Chelsea looking for titles/cups?

Are United still a big pull over us?

Spurs arent looking too clever.

RS is always going to be a tough move.

Villa are 2 steps ahead of us in growth but i dont think players would follow Onana there.

Arsenal & City would be the 2 standouts.

I'm not sure theres that much to fear and the upside if we did get Europe is that Moyes in theory would use the youth in those games.

If he hadn't signed off on them, we would have had a bench of our u21's all season.
He got picks.
The club got profiles
Gaps got filled.

If it's the only option put forward to you for the position is Moyes able to make a decision to Veto that or does he just accept his lot and say get them in.

It's the second part of your post that I'm driving at and you can add Rohl to that group.

You'd imagine if he was truly happy with the business and their signings he would be playing them. The simplest answer here is that they were the best options presented to him to give approval on but they still aren't good enough to oust any of the players he's picking instead.

He’d go to City tomorrow.

He’s here because he tried to chase the money and trophies with Chelsea and wasn’t good enough.

Pickford was signed for 30 million to be our starting keeper, he wasn't a project. He was 23.

Garner was signed as a 21 year old and mostly because Man United were one of the few teams that would allow us to defer most of the payment.

Branthwaite is the only one out of the 3 who we signed as teenager and developed and it was largely speculated he was going to be sold, I'd strongly suggest he would be if he wasn't suffering injury problems.

I'll ask again, how many trophies have all of these clubs you want us to replicate like Brighton and Southampton managed to win selling their best players every year?

And who's arsed about that while he is one of our best players and helping us win points.

I'd much rather watch him scoring goals and winning us matches than persist with a project player who is less consistent but allows us to cash in on a sale.
