2025/26 David Moyes

I mean it also should be added we spent £100m and only like £25m was actually on decent players.
It doesn't really matter in the context of the discussion though. The point is that if we'd managed to get ourselves 20+ points clear of relegation when the club was an absolute shambles with no board, no money, potential sales to the dodgiest of companies, points deductions etc then of course we should expect them to steer clear of trouble when all of those issues have been resolved and instead we've gone out and spent relatively big money. I've seen people say 'Moyes has raised expectations' but I just think it's worth remembering that the rise in expectations has come more from the club being in a much healthier position overall.

Yes.

We had two seasons in a row where all three promoted teams went straight back down with less than 30 points.

We were never in danger in those seasons.

21/22 and 22/23 are the only time we've been under real threat since the 90s, at least going into March/April period.

The concern last season was if Dyche stays and 1 of the bottom 3 pick up we'd be in big trouble..but he left in January and none of them did anything at all between them anyway. Even if he stsyed we'd have only neded a few more points.

I agree, mate. It's an attitude and a culture that has to change if the club are ever to succeed again. I'm just worried that these owners will happily just have us safe and steady and milk the Premier League and new stadium revenue for all it's worth.
If this really is the case then our fanbase need to come together as one and demand that they show some ambition. The years of treading water are over, time to push on and actually achieve something for once.

You’re right about the data being more of a ‘behind the scenes’ thing for teams though.

Issue is I reckon we probably have the worst data analysis team in the league. That’s said, it doesn’t take a genius to find the link between ‘we use the least amount of subs in the league’ and ‘we concede the most goals in 80+ minutes’
The new data center and scouting department that was set up over the summer with the purchase of the data center/analytical company TFG bought last season is one of the most high regarded in Europe. It's being used across all TFG clubs now.

Chris Howarth who we brought in and made the company that was purchased by TFG also very highly rated.

But sometimes it doesn't matter what the data is if the manager rejects most of what is offered to him.

You said 3 of the past 5 seasons you didn't spend a single second worried about us.

So last season, when we were 1 point above the drop zone under Dyche in January, you still hadn't spent a single second worried about us that season?

No, because I knew how bad the promoted teams were.

It took the slightest bit of upturn for us to be completely out of it.

Yes.

We had two seasons in a row where all three promoted teams went straight back down with less than 30 points.

We were never in danger in those seasons.
We were in danger in 23/24. If we don't win against Forest (Ashley Young's attempts to give away multiple penalties succeed), the tension goes up, Luton are more confident (having beaten us twice already), there's more chance of us losing it in the derby, and then all hell breaks lose. Anyone who points to the final points totals as evidence that Everton were completely safe doesn't understand context.

It's hard for me to put into words how little I care, mate.

Go ahead.

Well that didn't take long:

Here's you in 2021/22 defending someone crapping themselves, pointing out our upcoming tough fixtures and just a 6 point gap on relegation: https://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/threads/rafael-benitez.113286/page-2236#post-9230269

2022/23? We survived final day, everyone was crapping themselves.

And then double whammy here's you saying in December 2024/25 that we are in trouble (although still confident we'd stay up), whilst simulatenously saying relegation was a worry in 2023/24. https://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/threads/sean-dyche-sacked.120149/page-1874#post-11732101

So well done, you, like the rest of us, spent some point of the last 4 seasons worried about our future, unlike this one. Don't try use hindsight.
