2025/26 David Moyes

But in the context of a discussion about us being happy with this season because we didn't have to worry about relegation all season you can only factor in the points deduction if you also make allowances for how we'd have felt if we'd had 8 points deducted this year. Seeing as that would have seen us finish 2 points clear of West Ham you'd have to say it's maybe not something people making that argument really want to introduce to the conversation.

We were 2 points ahead of Luton prior to the Forest game, with a game in hand and much better goal difference.
I'm just saying the poster who said there were no worries about relegation in previous seasons was wrong, I'm sure the poster who said he was happy about not having worries about relegation was perfectly OK to base that on what actually happened rather than what would have happened if something that didn't happen happened.

But the points deductions happened, and we'd taken nine points from the previous 15 games and had just been absolutely smashed by Chelsea. If anyone didn't have a single worry about relegation that season then they have a legitimate superpower.

It's annoying that the BBC can't show the table on old match reports anymore, I find tables on this date pages often get the points deductions mixed up. If anyone can confirm how close we were to the relegation zone before the Forest game...

Your dead right here, mate. Obviously we can look at the table at the end of the season, even with the 8 points deducted, and tell yourself that we weren't in danger. But if we fail to win that game against Forest, after winning 1 game from Jan to April, I guarantee you we do not go on that great run of results. It was a huge win and we were very much in big danger until it was practically May.

Spent a few minutes sat in a Teams meeting typing. Not even remotely riled up - quite the opposite.

You mean like 'if we hadn't beaten forest and also hadn't won any of the games after that, AND Luton had got better which they definitely would have because that's how it works, once you see another team lose you just magically gain the ability to win other games yourself', that sort of thing that would have happened if something that didn't happen happened?!
