Player Valuation: £15m
Entirely possible that's the case but it would just raise more questions for me. We may not have got our first choices, and we were in all fairness in a position where we simply had to get numbers into the squad for the season. But with all that said - I find it hard to believe that Aznou was the only left back we could get, or that Dibling was the only winger we could get, for example. We all know we were rejected by a number of players in summer, it's also likely that Moyes ruled against signing some players suggested by the recruitment team as was reported to have happened in January. If it's the only option put forward to you for the position is Moyes able to make a decision to Veto that or does he just accept his lot and say get them in.
It's the second part of your post that I'm driving at and you can add Rohl to that group.
You'd imagine if he was truly happy with the business and their signings he would be playing them. The simplest answer here is that they were the best options presented to him to give approval on but they still aren't good enough to oust any of the players he's picking instead.
Imo, there is a clear initiative from the top of the club to focus on signing and developing young players. Moyes likely felt a need to not rock the boat in summer too much by rejecting signings being proposed, but he knows himself and will have known that they were unlikely to play a lot under him.
Question for me is not about Moyes credentials as a manager, he's proved over a long period that overall he is a good manager in this league. I think it's valid to question if he shares the vision of the rest of the decision makers and higher ups at the club though.
