2025/26 David Moyes

It's not though. It's what you're all advocating for. Sacking our current manager and rolling the dice on an unknown on the hopes he does better than Moyes because you all believe Moyes has a ceiling he won't get past.

There's absolutely no guarantee the next manager will do any better.

Moyes isn't just a "comfort blanket" though is he? Yes actually improved us in the 12 months he's been here and loads of you still want to sack him and gamble because of your hang ups from his first period here.

There's fair criticism to be levelled over the cup exits but from a results perspective he's been doing alright and we are in good shape to kick on and keep progressing.

exactly this

I think the boo’s covers lots of things including the mananger. The home form has been poor and he’s sets up quite defensively, we don’t create much we don’t really attack in numbers, most of the time it’s boot it forwards and hope our isolated striker can do something against 2 or 3 defenders. So I do think they’re also towards the manager .
Yeah obviously the boos are for a performance which is being overseen by the manager so i'm not saying he's exempt from it, just that it's not targeted booing of Moyes, it's general booing of poor performances. I make the distinction so that people like jake can't just make stuff up about what fans think, but alas it appears there's no stopping him.

So we keep Moyes until he expires in case we make a mess of the next appointment. An infallible argument.

95% of football managers are worse than Moyes, so the odds are not stacked in favour of success.

Heck, if you even look at flavour of the month picks, which of them did a better job than Moyes did at West Ham?

There’s no arguing with that. Moyes is the best we can aspire to.

David Moyes now winless at Anfield in 23 attempts in all competitions (seven draws, 16 defeats). No-one has ever visited Anfield more often as a manager without winning a game.

6 Sept 2022 — Sean Dyche takes to the tactics board to explain how he guided Burnley to a win that ended Liverpool's 68-game unbeaten run at Anfield.

23 Nov 2025 — Sean Dyche spoke after his Nottingham Forest side ran out 3-0 winners at defending Premier League champions Liverpool.

When you look at Arteta and the football Arsenal can be tainted with over his period...

Would we as a Fanbase give a manager 5yrs to build a squad, whilst watching a style pretty highly based around set pieces..

Think we need a thread on this..

I seriously cant believe the whole fanbase would back this over 5yrs.
Some serious patience needed.

Remember Arsenal were not in our state when he came in..

Good thread for the vaults aswell..

I like iraola. I dont think the sun shines out of his arse like many others do however. They've let in as many this season roughly as the bottom 3. Even taking into account the sales of his defenders you've got to shut up shop more than that. He went on a worse run this season than when O'neil got sacked at Bournemouth.
O'neil is just possible potential. A year down the line at strasbourg might reveal more.
Look at his start at Bournemouth aswell, wouldn't have gone down well on here.
I do like Iraola, but patience doesn't come in to play when they're not managing your club..

Oooof that’s some shout that….
Can you show your working for that one?
It's kind of true. Obviously you can't put a specific figure on it, but any manager who's managed at the top level for as long as Moyes has is clearly better than the hundreds and thousands of managers who've never reached that level. The issue with the post as it's presented is it's ignoring the context that the same would apply to anybody we appointed. It's effectively the same as saying Dwight McNeil is an elite level footballer who's spent his entire career at the top level, gets paid £60k a week and is valued at £20m, therefore he's clearly better than the huge majority of other footballers in the world. It's true, but it's only relevant if you're considering replacing him with someone from League 2.

It would all depend on the context, obviously. Would we take three consecutive 2nd place finishes and reaching a champions league semi final in the next 5 years? Yeah I reckon we would you know. I assume that isn't what's on offer in your imaginary scenario though, so you'd need to establish the parameters we'd be looking at.

Maybe you need to read the post again mate..

Imaginary scenario ?

That is the scenario I put out their, because It's what people want, but would they survive a gradual process..

So yeah, it would be a great thread and to the point. or are you worried that you will start questioning your own stance once a bit of time has passed by..

Difference with Arsenal is Arteta won the FA cup and then within a couple of seasons was challenging for the title and has continued to do so as well as getting to the CL semi final. Irs not as though that fanbase had five years of coming 8th then all of a sudden challenged for the title, they kept professing under Arteta and had forward momentum. Same with Klopp at Liverpool, the fans kept with it because every season they got better.

If a manager came into Everton and didn’t win a trophy in five seasons but took us into champions league football and had us challenging for the title every season I don’t think anyone on here would be complaining!
