he also bought in simon davies as well which was a total waste of money . plus beattie . bit of a hit and miss with the rooney money .we never really capitalized on finishing 4 th in attracting the right players

His bigger money transactions weren't great but it's a numbers game getting loads of 2 bob players gives you more chance of hitting paydirt than gambling on one or two high price players and it shows.

This is EXACTLY the philosophy we should be following in the next round of transfers too.

We are several players away from having a big enough, strong enough squad to compete for european qualification, and to actually perform well in Europe once we do qualify. The proof of this is a comparison of how the squad looked when Moyes arrived and how it looks now - that's progress, and it's reflected in the vastly improved league position.

Like it or not, we need another influx of cash to buy the next four or five players. We aren't simply one big-name transfer away from greatness.

David Moyes had substantial funds from sales twice.

With Lescott :

He bought 2 CBs, both which won Player of the Season awards last Season and a pretty gash Russian fella who we loved, but was quite terrible.

With Rooney :

He bought :

Lescott, who was outstanding and was sold for 22m, Andrew Johnson, who scored a lot of goals and was sold for a nice profit, AVDM, waste of talent, Phil Neville, good 6 Years, great Captain, Mikel Arteta, best Everton player for a LONG time, sold at a tidy profit and Kroldrup, I dont need to say how that went.

So please, can you point me towards "On the few occasions that David Moyes had substantial funds available as a result of selling players he rarely brought in players that have been outstanding successes."?

Theres lots of sticks to beat Moyes with, his transfer policy is the wrong 1.

Yep, then you've got to factor in all the ridiculous talent that Moyes wanted but wasn't given the "big" money to pay for.

This list is every bit as impressive as his bargain buy list (can't be arsed to remember them all now - there should be a list on here somewhere, like - but the Hazards, Essiens, Dzeko's etc)

Sorry lads, Moyes is untouchable on transfers. x

Moyes was a wizard when spending £6m ish or less, but on the four occasions he spent more than that, only one was a successful signing. That's not disputable.

That's exactly right.

There's a lot of revisionism going on since Moyes has left... pound for pound, he was pretty much the most successful manager in the Premier League.

But the real test of his acumen will come at United, I think. Not only will he have to juggle big egos (not something he's proven himself particularly adept at), but he will be expected to buy players in that £15million+ bracket.

Heroic mate, calling up names Moyes DIDN'T sign as vindication of his transfer prowess is just magnificent.

As someone completely bewildered by the whole Moyes "thing" I salute you - just brilliant.

best buy of all everyone seem to forget was the ever promising allrounder and super-sub Mr Naismith - talent which unfortunately eludes most Everton fans
