Daily Mail rag puts the boot into Martinez, the night before the derby

But it's all part of the big picture though, we were under cooked for the first few games...confidence drops..players try harder and push themselves more even though their fitness isn't upto scratch and they put themselves in danger of injuries... like Lukaku at the begining of the season, like Stones and Coleman coming back to soon before Christmas and like Mirallas and McCarthy now, all important players.

For the last 8-10 years we've always had our squads fitness to bail us out in the dying minutes of games but since the start of this season we've looked knackered after 75 minutes. I hope this trip to the training camp sharpened them up because possession based football's principles is based on tiring the opposition out, but all it seems to be doing this season is running us into the ground.
I agree about how surrendering the lead impacts confidence, really hit us in the Spurs game for example. But think the fitness part was only true early on in the season, there were several games just after that we were the better team after the 75 minute mark - Man Utd and Liverpool for example. And recently despite being down to 10 men for an hour imo our fitness was great against West Ham. In both Man City games I thought we finished the stronger team as we did versus Crystal Palace last weekend.

Players coming back too soon in their recovery is a different issue and one that has definitely hit us hard but haven't noticed a persistant problem with late game fitness, especially not recently.

I wish we could go back to last season, when we were doing well and there were all those pro-Everton articles.

Oh wait... they were calling us Everloan, saying it would be a disgrace if we got in the CL by 'cheating' and were trying to sell our best players by claiming they were all 'done deals'.

There is no such thing as an unbiased or sympathetic media when it comes to Everton's coverage.

Could have been published any time in the last 4-6 weeks but wasn't. But was very deliberately published the night before the derby.

Also the whole theme of the article is that staff are bailing on Martinez because they don't like him/his methods, when 2 of the 3 names mentioned never left the club because of anything to do with Martinez. That's the main bone of contention with the article and why it's [Poor language removed], and why it differs from our criticisms.

This isn't just a case of bad newspapers writing disappointing things about Everton and people getting upset about it.

This is agenda-driven mistruths and lies, timed to cause trouble at an opportune time.

Well, considering this the highest profile game of our season it is little wonder it is published at a time when it is likely to maximise interest.

Given the turgid nature of Everton's football for most of this season, one can hardly expect owt positive to be written about us on the eve of big games.

There is really very little positive can be written.

That article is mostly bang on and we all know it to be so.

That is why it hurts so much......it is one thing us having our internal debate on here but you know what?

This is how the outside world is viewing events at Goodison these days.

There is no point us getting all precious about it.

Me?

I don't mind truth based articles about EFC even if they are pointing out what is wrong at the club.

Imagine Everton were in decline and the national press couldn't even be bothered writing about it.

We are relevant......that is why national newsoapers write unpalateable truth like that.

And besides, and if I may paraphrase Oscar Wilde, the only thing worse than people writing negative articles about us is nobody writing an article about us at all.

;)

The best thing we can do is go out tomorrow and show the rest of the country that EFC is still very much in business.

COYB.

Seen a lot worse written about Rodgers in the press tbh, think most of them genuinely like Martinez and have often softened their articles unconciously because of it.

I've done it myself but rising to them is what the mail want, online especially.

They're paid by the amount of seconds you stay on a page thats why pictures fill the middle of stories so you have to carry on scrolling and still on the page. They're the print equivalent of TalkSport, they're terrible but they're brilliant at doing what they have to get a rise from readers.

That Sky advert is nauseating to us Blues. However it has to be remembered that what they are trying to do is get the highest possible viewing audience for the game, therefore the Gerrard v Everton line (can he get one over them in his last derby) is the one they are going to use to promote the effing thing. Libberpewl more media friendly than us ? Better get used to it for a while yet until we win stuff.

There will probably be equal cause to accuse them of this during the game. Especially if Tyler is commentating and Slipper scores. It will be unfathomable in fact.

But does it equate to an agenda to conspire towards us losing ? Don't think so. That sort of stuff belongs in RAWK.

I bet some of the story is true.

The date at the top of the page.

Constant lies have been written for years. How many players are always 'just about to be sold' and never are?

Why is this any different? Just because some people (not you personally but generally) have a negative downer on Everton at the moment doesn't justify an article that has a grain of truth but is quite glaringly full of errors, lies and 'unnamed sources'.

It's not a case of 'some of it might be true, we don't know'. The whole theme of the article is that people are leaving EFC because they can't work with Martinez. That's been proven in 2 of the 3 names mentioned to be complete bollox. Then you consider who wrote it and his track record/propensity for writing negative EFC articles, claiming players are always about to be sold and never are.
