We had a joker come on a couple of days ago and state. We'll do better than Spain, France and Germany. How is that working out?

If you are tracking what's going on here. This virus, ignores boundaries. It doesn't care about your political beliefs or ego-eccentric opinions. From the beginning, I've advocated testing and ensuring that our front line healthcare professionals get the the equipment they need.

And this "herd immunity" Called that for the callous, inhumane nonsense it was. This is isn't about being right or scoring points, it's about informing people about the dangers this pandemic poses.

So get of your high horse and your point scoring there's more important matters at hand.

eh? that would probably have been me, and I'll stand by that projection.

You ever been in a slaughterhouse, chicken farm or even a farm? We certainly do stack animals on top of each other

One of my best mates lived next door a pig farm mate, where they slaughtered them too.

It was tested to death and the farmer, who was a belligerent old get, was terrified of the power the inspectors had. The net result was the farm was almost sterile, as it was cleaned that much.

It may have been in the past, but they’d be shut down in seconds if that was the case now.

So putting a blow torch on a live dog is acceptable, because it makes the meat “ taste “ better

You know what mate. I've seen some ludicrous posts on here. But justifying this savagery. Apparently it's grand cause we have to respect all cultures.

There's a time were you have to take a stand and call people out for their sheer idiocy.

There's folks here who would justify cannibalism just so they couldn't offend someone they may vaguely know.

If you ever go on a trip to somewhere like Cambodia you'll understand why they eat bats/dogs/cats.

Honestly got no wish to mate.

I have no interest in that part of the world. It looks beautiful and I'm sure there's amazing parts - I've just never really had a wish to go. Not being ignorant of it, and I'm sure you can tell me why they do in those countries. I just feel it's wrong and inhumane.

Done New Zealand and want to do the Canada/US west coast in a few years. Beyond that, travelling (especially to south-east Asia) has never really been my thing.

You've done pretty much what most countries have mate, reacted to events. Compare that to countries in the East who have tested and isolated like there was no tomorrow.

Governments will get a lot of grief, some of it justified, but until ordinary people realised the potential magnitude of the problem, those people would react in a very different way to countries whose population have recent memories of SARS.

Even now, after having see what's happening through most of Europe, Sweden is dragging it's heels a bit. To be fair, Sweden is demographically unusual, so they might get away with it.

+1.
Imposing effective martial law overnight would most probability lead to extreme civil unrest in Western democracies. Every chance that we'd see a 100k-strong protest along Whitehall the next day if they played it too heavy handed.

VERY broad brush estimate ...

Average mortality rate across China is .7% per year
Population of Wuhan , roughly 11 million

So, if, and it's a very big if, normal mortality rates in Wuhan reflect the whole country

Expected deaths = 11,000,000 * 7/1000 * 2.5/12

Gives roughly 16,000

That ignores seasonal variations, average age and lots of other things, but does leave quite a gap.

Seriously mate all you are doing right now is justifying eating, kittens and dogs. Good on you. Fair play. Let alone the vast amount of wild animals that have no business being on anyone's table.
Out of curiosity, which animals do have business being on anyone's table?

"It's inhumane the way they treat animals in China. I mean yeah I know we kill animals and eat them but at least we're nice to them before we do it"

Not much of a moral hill to die on imo.
