Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I have two younger brothers that have zero medical training. Today, they have been screaming at me to buy a CPAP Machine for my vulnerable sister, as they are convinced that it could help her in the event that she started struggling with the virus. They cost £350. If I thought for a minute that they would help then I would of course get one. I have done some research and only found this:

"Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), auto-CPAP, and bilevel positive airway pressure (BiPAP or BPAP) machines typically used for treatment of sleep apnea (either in the home or facility setting) may be used to support patients with respiratory insufficiency provided appropriate monitoring (as available) and patient condition".

I don't know what to do. My brothers are gobshites tbf, and have previously tried to guilt trip me into buying a diabetic pump for my sister, as if you can just buy them from Argos (you can't).

I don't know. But is there anyone on here with medical knowledge that can advise on the efficacy of a CPAP for someone with Coronavirus?

A CPAP machine is essentially a non-invasive ventilator, so it would work for somebody with severe Coronavirus symptoms.

However, it’s not something you can just use with no experience.

Source: Mrs who’s spent many shifts using them.

What a stupid 'kin question.

Just about anyone who wouldn't have accepted the advice of a couple of medical officers who believe their own modelling was superior to the advice from health care systems that'd already faced this virus head on; anyone who wouldn't have handed message after contradictory message regarding public behaviour and distancing in this crisis; anyone who wouldn't have let the issue of key industry employees go dragging on for days on end; anyone who wouldn't have made a continued point of underlining Brexit and opposing the EU over the procurement of ventilators.

You think it'd be hard to replace that stupid [Poor language removed]?

Just a name will do .....anyone.....

Government guidance for employment and self employment schemes just been published for anyone who's interested

Helpful that it does say you're eligible if have traded in 2019-20.

Though again I can't help but get the feeling I'm going to end up getting 80% of an average profit which is drastically lower than what I've been earning for the last year (again, wouldn't be so bad if I hadn't made it my full-time job – why didn't someone tell me being a sports journo was a crap idea?)

Jeremy Vine tweeted this a few hours ago. It indicates that UK may hit peak at April fifth.

Interestingly, it suggests that Germany may have already peaked.

The reason the UK are not bothered on respority equipment is that genius in Oxford medical research, has come up with a computerised way of inflating lungs in an attack of Corvo 19 virus and cheaper than the standard equipment they are short of now it's on trial this week and looks brilliant.....let's hope its revolutionary against this virus in ITC units all over the UK and beyond .,...
Have you got a link to that article @Joey66

I really can't see a peak not coming in early to mid-April.

Even with these measures. It's going to hit us and hit us soon.

But with the Chancellor's announcement today, that June payment back-dated to March (and I know they'll extend if necessary) seems to indicate that I think the government are at least hopeful that by the end of spring it's more a case of people needing to get back into a bit of normality.

It's gonna be a rough month or two but hopefully by this time next month we're through the worst of it and it's a case of managing the decline and gradually easing off the measures.

And those 3 days have made a huge difference!!! Not really fella, if they are so far off the mark why is the UK looking at Italy as a gauge! I'm confused by your denial of the facts as they are presented?

Funnily enough 3 days actually does make a massive difference.

Like I said, we are behind Italy. They had 1000 deaths at the same point in their outbreak. In the past four days we’ve gone from having a similar total number of deaths to far less.
