Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Got to remember that Italy has one of the oldest populations, whilst Spain and Italy have two of the highest smoking rates in Western Europe.

Not the sole reasons but definitely a factor.

Also their lifestyles. We are not very sociable really. People go to the pub... But not that often.

Italy and Spain all love socialising in the evenings, and Spain has had a very dry and warm end of winter start of spring which has made them do it more than normal

Wonder why?different demographics infected?better healthcare/more prepared?

Italy have great healthcare but I think one of the things which hasn't been taken into account is how they live in the Med countries.

A lot of the UK - outside the major cities or inner city areas - has space. We take it for granted but a lot of people do live in detached or semi-detached housing.

Look at any vids you're seeing from Italy and Spain quarantines. A lot - obviously not all - of their streets are tiny and narrow. Apartments and houses crammed in together. Even the villages are tiny, narrow, cobbled streets. I'm sure the majority of us have all been and know what I mean.

Then think - they've all been on lockdown. And cramped in.

It could just be a factor too.

Spot on mate.

They simply have to get testing done to the front line ASAP because without that you'll have 50% of the workforce in isolation with symptoms but not actual covid19 and that's where it starts getting tricky and hospitals get overrun

Got to look after the front line ( and I just want to confirm that I'm classing front line as NHS of course, but teachers and cleaners as well).

We are a fair few weeks away imo from being clear of the woods. Let's hope beyond hope we get to post low numbers, we suppress it and get back to some kind of normality

I definitely think there'll be a spike coming, unfortunately, and they need to get more and more tests done because like you said it's the workforce which ar ethe issue.

The one positive I can see from a lack of testing is the people who will have had this already by the time the end of April swings around (or maybe even sooner) and will have simply not had any symptoms.

While I know it's the main danger of the illness, when it comes to the mortality rate it surely indicates it's actually far lower than the 'official' figures show.

That's not to say it isn't serious. It will effect everyone in different ways.

Whilst controlling save distance etc at work today a woman walked out and genuinely sneezed all over me.
"Oh, I'm full of cold"

Clearly the look i gave her and the vocal response from the lady behind her upset her, but FFS.

I went shopping tonight and generally it was all good and people were respectful of others space but there were 3 or 4 people that walked close by despite the aisles being empty with plenty of room to not be so close. There are always going to be bells around probably spreading what they have.

Elderly relatives more likely to live with their entire families - there's loads of reasons.

There was a doctor on the local radio from the Bradford area earlier this week. They're worried about that being an epicentre because of the large proportion of Pakistani/Indian people who live in the area and a lot of elderly relatives live in the same house as the rest of the family.

Not celebrating his death in any way shape or form but you know the sooner people realise the virus isn't arsed about your thoughts and prayers the better.

Face-psalm

A CPAP machine is essentially a non-invasive ventilator, so it would work for somebody with severe Coronavirus symptoms.

However, it’s not something you can just use with no experience.

Source: Mrs who’s spent many shifts using them.
Mate ,@Dymak is on about is an over the counter machine that automatically sends a gentle gust of oxygen down the nasal passage when it detects when the user has interrupted their breathing pattern.
there is a debate about if they can spread the virus to others when taking off the mask with these machines going on.
unless a doctor has advised on the matter i wouldn't let his brothers brow beat him to get one.
Your Mrs is more than likely working with something very different, bet if you showed her a picture of a £399 one she would say state of that ;)

Not much chance of that happening.

Call me cynical but I don’t understand why there isn’t a social media campaign anywhere near the level the Tories had for the general election. Surely they could employ the same people to try and get the message across.

It really isn’t worth going on universal credit if you’re self employed.

I worked in then benefit system for a few years, and although it was mainly on JSA I trained on UC for a bit and it is essentially the same process just more streamlined with a different payment structure.

This loan the government are advising self employed people to get is easier said than done.

For one, it’s 60% of your entitled benefit. There’s a very good chance your benefit will already be deducted through any savings you may have and the last payment you received.

When you go through the loan process (it’s called a short term advance btw) you’ll be asked so many questions about your circumstances. These questions are all designed for the advisor to give you as little as possible.

You’ll be asked about what you need the money for, the last payment you received, what you spent that money on, is there anyone in the household who can provide for you, have you been to your local authority for hardship etc....

Basically unless you live on your own and have absolutely nothing to live on they’ll expect you to get money from elsewhere.

If by the end of this process you’re entitled to a payment, chances are it’ll be very limited and wouldn’t be worth your while. Very unlikely that you’d receive it after a couple of days also, especially with the growing demand.

You’ll then be waiting about five weeks to receive your first benefit payment and if you’re lucky enough to received a sizeable advance a large chunk will be taken out of this payment.

It’s laughable that the government are advising people to go down this route. It really is.

Anyone need some advice about going on UC give us a shout and I should be able to answer any questions you have.

My general advice would be to avoid it if you can but that’s without knowing anyone’s circumstances.

Spot on......perhaps the people who denigrated the "scroungers" and now have to actually claim UC will realise that they were misinformed.
