Wonder why?different demographics infected?better healthcare/more prepared?
Italy have great healthcare but I think one of the things which hasn't been taken into account is how they live in the Med countries.
A lot of the UK - outside the major cities or inner city areas - has space. We take it for granted but a lot of people do live in detached or semi-detached housing.
Look at any vids you're seeing from Italy and Spain quarantines. A lot - obviously not all - of their streets are tiny and narrow. Apartments and houses crammed in together. Even the villages are tiny, narrow, cobbled streets. I'm sure the majority of us have all been and know what I mean.
Then think - they've all been on lockdown. And cramped in.
It could just be a factor too.
Spot on mate.
They simply have to get testing done to the front line ASAP because without that you'll have 50% of the workforce in isolation with symptoms but not actual covid19 and that's where it starts getting tricky and hospitals get overrun
Got to look after the front line ( and I just want to confirm that I'm classing front line as NHS of course, but teachers and cleaners as well).
We are a fair few weeks away imo from being clear of the woods. Let's hope beyond hope we get to post low numbers, we suppress it and get back to some kind of normality
I definitely think there'll be a spike coming, unfortunately, and they need to get more and more tests done because like you said it's the workforce which ar ethe issue.
The one positive I can see from a lack of testing is the people who will have had this already by the time the end of April swings around (or maybe even sooner) and will have simply not had any symptoms.
While I know it's the main danger of the illness, when it comes to the mortality rate it surely indicates it's actually far lower than the 'official' figures show.
That's not to say it isn't serious. It will effect everyone in different ways.
