My missus has just been talking to one of her mates on the phone, she was telling the missus that her neighbour took his daughter out for a driving lesson this morning and was pulled up by the Police and threatened with a £30 fine. IMO that's just ridiculous.

Is this true?

If so, explains yesterdays figures.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's an active attempt to distort the figures now for political reasons with a lockdown underway.
I thought it would be the other way around given that most sensible people would understand that we will not see the benefit of our current actions for approx 10 days

Whilst nobody wants higher death figures surely they would serve to justify the lockdown measures and encourage more people to self isolate

There's been a lot of criticism of US President Donald Trump for not taking the virus seriously early on and wasting precious time to prepare for the pandemic but that criticism doesn't seem seem to have hurt his approval ratings.

According to pollster Gallup, 49% of Americans approve of the job he does, while only 45% disapprove. The data is for the week 13-22 March and on par with the highest ratings he ever got in Gallup surveys.

Specific to the virus crisis, 60% say he's doing a good job versus 38% disapproving of the man at the helm.

LBC this am the small businesses grants bank loans 80 percent pay for employees .....maybe May - fgs mnd you Gideon cut the jobs at HRMC......

How many ventilators do we have compared to Germany? How many ventilators per person do we have compared to Italy? If we do better, it's because they will be giving us advice- which thankfully they are.
If you make these statements to reassure yourself, grand- just please don't minimise the risk to others- the social isolation bit with help the NHS massively over the next 3 weeks.
12,000 currently...

So you’re blaming Clegg and Osborne for banks asking for personal guarantees from business owners for loans already supposedly guaranteed by this Govt?

Whilst also blaming them for the total lack of detail behind the 80% pledge and an undefined timescale behind when payments can be expected.

That’s quite some reach........

i'd imagine it's utter bollocks mate, like most of the stuff that's being reported. I live in a small village and i must know of about 20 people who know somebody who has tested positive... which of course is utter crud.

people for some reason don't want to believe a government which has shown up to now a willing readiness to allow the British public to carry on as normal as possible with their lives and seem to not want the draconian measures that the rest of Europe seems to be implementing.

i don’t get why people are crying out for more draconian measure either - why, why do people WANT to be locked in their homes? And as far as I can tell, it’s the usual people (those strangely on the left who surely are all about freedom) who want it.
All I can say is around my area people are following the guidance - it’s even quite peaceful to an extent. If we can keep these current measures in place for most of the country and we start to see gradual improvement then maybe we can get through this

Ultimately it’s the big cities / population centres which need locking down more than rural villages and towns

Also just been told Huyton Civils(liverpool) have been told to close tomorrow

It's a mad thing to do, whatever way you slice it. Covering up the scale of the problem isn't going to do anyone any good now

I'm guessing a bit here, but I suspect the issue with consent will be tied in with the fact that the death won't be formally recorded at the registrars straight away, something which could easily take 48 hours to happen.

Once the death's been registered, the anonymised data will be available, and no consent will be required, so the numbers might be shifted down the line a bit.

I'm more willing to go with the German institute because the Germans have never told lies, ever.
Just going through other things Pebody is said it looks like Germany is not doing posthumous tests routinely, which is a bit different to what you were saying.
