I'll be getting a COVID booster, just like oh it's suddenly fine that it's dropped down from 5 months to 3 in a day but I'll go get one. I have to book it myself so I'll just go in a few weeks, probs before Xmas. I have a week off work starting tomorrow and I don't want to feel crap for it, want to be on the bike/on runs and fully active as much as poss for this time of year. I have the protection of immunity and vaccines not even 3 months ago, but will get my booster in due course.

Aye I know, possibly because they delayed their opening and it just all came at once. Schools are driving a lot of stuff, of course they are. My mate's lad started at nursery in September and now he (my mate) is constantly ill with something lol ultimately, schools need to stay open though.
Glad you are getting a booster Toff, afterwards you and @maccavennie should compete as to who has the higher antibody numbers ;)

Meant to be going to NYC on Saturday, just gonna have to monitor it each day. A mate is meant to be flying out on Wednesday so hopefully get an idea of how things are in the states.
Just to keep you up to date but all rumor atm (24 hours PCR test pre flight, a 7 day quarantine and a PCR test ~ 4 days post flight, unclear who applies to) and nothing confirmed, sorry!
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is considering tightened travel recommendations and rules as health officials try to slow the Covid-19 omicron variant’s entry to the U.S.

The agency is looking measures such as narrowing the testing window for travelers into the country and adding quarantine requirements in certain cases, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said Tuesday on a call with reporters. It’s also expanding surveillance programs at four major airports to test for Covid from specific international arrivals.

Edit looks like there is a briefing tomorrow scheduled

I remember my time in an ICU after a triple bypass. The staff sat at the end of my bed throughout the night, checking and adjusting whatever. When I went back to a normal ward my impressions were of chalk and cheese. The nurses were excellent, but not of the standard of the ICU people…imo……
They are the next level for sure but it's a role that does take it out of you. It's purely a heuristic rather than anything data-driven, but when the wife was working in ICU I recall her saying that few of the nurses on the ward were very old and few had worked there for long periods (10 years, say), simply because it is so draining physically and mentally.

.... and again, you are doing to the 90 year old what you claim to be horrified about doing to the 27 year old.

Here is another perspective of looking at it.

The 90 year old has a much shorter life span than the 27 year old. So by prioritising the 90 year old, you essentially kill 2 people at once rather than save at least one.

When old age is literally a reason put on a death certificate, medically you wouldn't save someone that old as a priority knowing there is potentially 101 different things they could die from within a short space of time , including simply from being old.

Not to mention in that scenario , which one of the two are more likelely to have a full recovery?

It's simply put, choosing the young person saves a life, choosing the 90 year old potentially kills both.

I get what you are saying but maybe the example should never have been a 27 year old Vs a 90 year old! If it was similarly aged then your point would have been a little stronger

Well this is definitely a good thing and not terrifying at all.

Imagine continuing drinking afterwards like nothing just happened...kills all the vibe...Europe oh, what has happened to you...
When this happens here is when I stop going out and doing anything.

There aren't enough police to deal with real crime so hopefully that factors into the decision making.

Yes but would’ve been much less likely to spread it. Rapid tests also deliver lots of false negatives
Yep, they do.
I have a nasty little bug at the minute. Took a rapid, and it has come back positive. So been for a proper test. At this time of year, you have a chance of picking up other coranavirus infections, and produce antibody's for those. Therefore possibly triggering a false positive.
