The 90 year old - I don't even think it is that difficult a choice in the circumstances.
I've just finished watching the south park post covid special and one of the running jokes is 'in the future, we do everything we can to keep old people alive'.

There is also a great joke on someone not getting vaccinated because someone may have ate shellfish when making the vaccine, so the reason for not getting it is simply shellfishness.

Fair enough mate.

All of the people I know who died, were “ at risk “ for one reason or other, but they still died earlier than they should’ve done, which is tragic regardless.
Im not saying it’s not out there and never have, but to shut down the whole world, if it was as catastrophic as they have made out the last two years everyone would know many many people who have been destroyed by it.

I’ve been double jabbed, I’m not a conspiracy theorist or an anti vaxxer but I’m sorry if any one is falling for this rubbish or falling for the nonsense the government is appointing them we have bigger issues. It’s an absolute joke!

We’re investigating four samples of suspected Omicron cases, the samples are from Oct. Not confirmed mind. So it’s possible this has been in Europe for quite a bit.

The best quote I heard on omicron was Biden saying it’s a cause for concern, not panic. We literally aren’t sure yet about anything at this stage. There was a hopeful anecdotal report from South African that about 20 patients had it, and they didn’t get especially sick. They were young and healthy people, though, though it would be a concern if they got very seriously ill.

In the coming days we will get more data, I predict by the end of the week we should know how the current vaccine antibodies hold up against it, you can bet anything omicron and antibodies are together in a test tube being analysed right now. Given the nature of the mutations it’s very likely we will see a drop in the level of antibody protection as we did with Delta, but what I don’t see reported anywhere is we are likely to still have a T-Cell response. Antibodies are one part of the protection. While the booster should give as much anti body protection as is possible in this current technology cycle, you really should go and get a booster.

All that said there is the possibility, which would be huge that the variant may be more infectious and transmissible then Delta and become dominant, but could lead to less serious illness, then previous variants.

Simply put all of the above we don’t know yet, but should shortly. Meanwhile the world is introducing travel restrictions, they aren’t designed to keep Omicron out its the slow the spread and any potential surge.

Central Europe is having an awful time mate, it’s the exponential growth, leading to the surge, it’s like going from 0-100, in a very short space of times, services just get swamped, awful. I think it’s the perfect storm of interconnectedness of Central Europe, their lower vaccine profile, flu season and i actually think schools are driving a lot of it too, though governments don’t like to acknowledge that.
I'll be getting a COVID booster, just like oh it's suddenly fine that it's dropped down from 5 months to 3 in a day but I'll go get one. I have to book it myself so I'll just go in a few weeks, probs before Xmas. I have a week off work starting tomorrow and I don't want to feel crap for it, want to be on the bike/on runs and fully active as much as poss for this time of year. I have the protection of immunity and vaccines not even 3 months ago, but will get my booster in due course.

Aye I know, possibly because they delayed their opening and it just all came at once. Schools are driving a lot of stuff, of course they are. My mate's lad started at nursery in September and now he (my mate) is constantly ill with something lol ultimately, schools need to stay open though.

Oh not preching mate, Id be reluctant to give anyone individual advice, as it’s a very personal decision and I’m a big advocate of informed consent. lol

By “you” I was more expressing my own view point and addressing the GOT ether rather than your own situation! ;) I worry people might wait for their booster in Feb, March when it will be tweaked, but that’s not the clever play.

In hindsight the U.K. played it right opening up in the summer, it was stupid of most of Europe to do in Sep/Oct, really stupid.

Schools keep the economy going and are important developmentally. They have been neglected though a bit I feel, loads can be done, we mandated masks today for 9+ and in public places today, but they really are driving a lot of our infections here. The numbers above are startling. We stopped close contacting in schools too which didn’t help and recently we introduced antigen tests for school close contacts, though our public health hate them, they literally call them snake oil. For me ventilation is key, if governments updated ventilation systems in schools it would be massive. To be honest, ventilation doesnt get the recognition it deserves as a protective measure.

Jesus.. what a mad reply.

Someone who has paid 70-75 years worth of taxes into the system should be able to get to use it, you know.

Plus, sadly, if that 90 year old dies of COVID no-one is going to notice. If a 27 year old unvaccinated mother of three dies of it, people would notice and it would probably result in more people getting the jab.

It’s not that I don’t believe him, but you can’t just say “oh I’m an anaesthetist and I have done this today”. If that’s the case then I’d imagine the public would like to know which hospital is stopping cancer patients having life saving surgery to deal with unvaccinated Covid patients. I don’t care who he is, there is no reason he can’t name the hospital or the hospital trust. How’s its sensitive info? He’s going to be telling hundreds of people they can’t have cancer surgery over the next week or so isn’t he, I’m sure it’ll be common knowledge If it’s true after all these cancer patients being left to suffer. I’m not putting a tin foil hat on, all’s I’m saying if you’re gonna put that in the public domain then you’re gonna get questioned. As for having nothing better to do than answering questions from people on the street, he seems to think it’s ok to spend time putting his hospitals dirty laundry on Twitter.
He also joined Twitter as recent as Aug 2020, not a verified account either.

oh aye mate was just talking personally. My point from last week stands and I think they're using this as a rush to get it through but I know it's almost certainly not going to do harm - I just think, speaking for myself here, it'd be 3 jabs in 5 months... so I'll try aim for the last week in December or early Jan.

Yeah I suppose you're right on the ventilation but at the end of the day, kids get ill. It's kind of crucial to them growing up! And there's only so much you can do to stop it. I'm not into kids having to wear masks at school, or staff, I think it's wrong, tbh. We already have a generation of kids who are glued to their phones. Next generation will be glued to face masks lol

Does anyone not know someone who has either died or lost someone from this? Genuinely curious - without really thinking about it I know of at least three people (two at work, one the dad of someone I went to school with). I also know a few more people with long COVID.

3 people for me and those have all been in the last 5mths which when I talk to roughly 50 people a week and not always the same 50 over the last 18mths the figures don't add up. And, those 2 people we poorly but never went to hospital and 2 of them had been double jabbed. Even so, I have followed all the guidelines, had 3 jabs and still work from home apart from 1 day a week which I posted about earlier.

Just my personal experience of it all.

Yeah but your job as a health care provider is not to play politics. We have pins to think about. Every decision questioned if there is an incident. There is no way anybody saves a 90 year old smoker over a 27 year old mother. No matter what their vax status is. The unvax mother gets the bed and you do what you can for the 90 year old. Anything different and you have some very serious questions to answer. You can't say, oh she is unvaccinated, so we let her die. So the public have a slap in the face. You would be packing up your belongings and straight out the door. Don't even bother with the enquiry. Just leave.
