I'll probably carry a mask around with me and judge the situation. I'd probably wear one on the underground or a bus or docs

Pubs and restaurants will be a lot better without them.

I've enjoyed going to certain places knowing there is less chance of bumping into someone I went to school with for a chat.
I think maybe they should keep them in supermarkets and regular shops. And public transport for a bit longer.

I'll keep wearing one for a while i think...

Well exactly.

I have taken it seriously, I’ve gone along with what we’ve all had to endure but we can’t live our lives locked away and restricted. This graph basically shows the vaccine working which was the whole point of the immunisation drive.

We haven't seen the real damage this period has caused, so people don't understand the consequences. Job losses, inflation, a mental health epidemic etc.

At this point, I am absolutely confident that restrictions are causing far more harm than COVID. To an insane degree actually.

Went for my second jab at Guy’s on Friday last, it was almost empty (though there are three centres right next to another).
Yes, it was the same when I had my 2nd a week ago today. Very few people there. As you say, they have opened up additional facilities, but you'd think they've done that to cope with demand, but it was noticeably quiet.

To add to this, we need to remember that the whole point of everything was to protect the NHS which was unprepared for exponential growth.

Lockdowns/measures were never intended to be used to 'stop new variants' or whatever else they're all saying to move the goalposts now.

The metric should be simple - hospitalisations and deaths. If those numbers are low, job done. Variants of respiratory diseases happen all the time, all over the world, regardless of what humans do, because of something called evolution. They evolve and adapt to survive, we can't stop that because we can't eradicate COVID.

Exactly.

We can’t get rid of the flu, and we manage that through the use of yearly boosters.

Between ten and twenty thousand people die of that every year though; before the boosters it was rather more than that.

We can’t eradicate these diseases, but we probably can do something constructive about them that prevents such a scale of deaths (and a larger number of hospitalisations, and the loss of tens / hundreds of thousands of working days as the flu moves through the country). That doesn’t mean lockdown, but it does mean being smarter and having the country be bette protected.

I'm double vaccinated and tested positive on a lateral flow today. I've done a PCR test this evening, so that should confirm it. Feel pretty rubbish but just an annoying cough.

I'm guessing if it was picked up by the lateral flow, I will be infectious to others.
Further info for anyone interested.

PCR confirms I have it. Been pretty unwell the last 24 hours, similar to having the flu. Luckily it's stayed off my chest so far.

Although deaths might be dramatically reduced, there's going to be a lot of ill people this summer

We don't know all there is to know about this virus yet in any or all of its know mutations so if wearing a mask indoors helps reduce the risk then I'll still wear mine.

Brings us back to what De Pfeffel was muttering on about in the early stages... 'one fifth of the workforce will be ill at any one time'... what a clown!
