Testing needs to be scaled back massively. Its causing huge problems in schools and various industries.

These people are utterly insane.

It wouldn't be a surprise if a few people on here follow them, if so, it does help to answer the question of why they're so full of gloomy BS that has absolutely no basis in reality.

I disagree with scaling back testing, for now. However it does answer why our cases are so far ahead of everywhere else. If everywhere else were testing to the same extent that we were then their figures would be massively up as well.

And the same amount of daily deaths (and more as an average).

It's not a crap competition. I think it's clear the Delta variant really is at hold here in the UK and fortunately it isn't yet in France, hopefully it stays that way.

But the vaccines are doing their job. Which is hopefully the way out of this for everyone.
0.7% of cases are delta variant in France. We have had 0 cases of any type in our region in the past 10 days.
We await the tourists, especially those from the UK, with trepidation.
Let's hope the vaccinations continue to be effective

Why would they. It is the highly infectious delta form that is causing high figures in England.
Thank Mr Johnson for that.

Yeah, 100%, it's good that it's so far not taken hold there albeit the positive sign from the UK is that the vaccines work against it - evidently, so that is a protective measure. Also, the initial spread of delta over here seemed to be in areas that for whatever reason, vaccination uptake was lower.

It'll be interesting what happens with Spanish and Italian fans coming over to Wembley for the games next week. Will their governments want lots of people travelling over here if they have the Delta variant relatively under control?

They shouldn’t be travelling, from the UEFA website -

Entering from an Amber Listcountry:

  • Bring proof of a negative test result from within the last 72 hours (pre-departure test).
  • Complete a Passenger Locator Form.
  • Quarantine at home or the place where you are staying (e.g. a hotel) for 10 days.
  • Take a COVID-19 test on or before day 2, and on or after day 8 at your own expense.
  • There are no quarantine exemptions for EURO 2020 ticket holders arriving in England, with a standard ten-day quarantine and the option of a test to release after five days. A negative test will still need to be booked for day 8.
  • If you do travel to England, the UK Government has stated that if it is suspected that an individual intends to attend the game without first quarantining, they may be denied entry on arrival at the border. There is a fine of up to £10,000 for failing to quarantine in England on arrival.
  • Individuals will be called by the Isolation Assurance and Compliance Service throughout their self-isolation period, to check that they are complying with their duty to self-isolate.

2683 new cases in France yesterday.
Just saying.
Go back 2 months and France was recording 26,000 cases per day while the UK was recording 1,900.

Baffles me that we're well over a year into this and some people still don't understand that case spikes come in waves and countries experience these waves at different times. I mean, seriously, it's not that hard to understand.

The rules were relaxed for the final (incorrectly imo). Will have to see what happens for these.

and that the important thing right now is hospitalisations which, will rising, aren't resulting in a rise in deaths.
Yes, that could well change, there's big ifs, but ultimately that's the trade off as we aim to get back to normality as much as possible

Exactly. That's not to say letting cases remain high doesn't pose other issues, but if the vast majority of people who are at risk of becoming seriously ill or dying from covid are fully protected, who exactly is meant to benefit from continuing our economic self-harm? The alternative is to stay in this limbo forever.
