Wow. Thought airports have a compulsory masking policy. I am not a fan as some here might know but thought airports would be the last in the list when it comes to getting rid of the thing.
Only a viewing gallery mate, not in a terminal or anything. But just, to me at least, proved the public are tired of "oh, this new variant."

Yep, same in Llandudno yesterday and today, pavements absolutely rammed, hardly a mask anywhere. If there’s no big spike after all this mayhem it’ll be a miracle.
If all the oldies are vacinated mate then i doubt there will be an issue, probably a rise in cases from 0-45 group, id bet hospitilisations still drop.

They’re always going to be in the firing line mate, as this things never going away.

This week it’s the Indian Variant, there’s now another one Thailand, which is supposed to be a mix of the Kent and Indian variant and even more potent.

No doubt, it’ll find its way over here and the press will be all over it like a bumming mongrel.

We can’t just keep locking down the country every time a new one “ pops “ up, as it surely will.

It’s a virus and that’s what viruses do to stay alive, they mutate. Why don’t the hundreds of new variants of the flu every single year get named and have news stories dedicated to them on the BBC?

Deja Vu this, from last summer. Folk posting tons of non masks and zippo SD, yet in Sensible Town, my experience was the exact opposite. Cheerful compliance, most folk respectful of your space and that, cleaning their trollies and baskets and hands at the shops.

Maybe @Barnfred 55 had a different experience, (later at night, eating and drinking indoors), when he stayed the other day.

Tbf I don’t think there are many that are suggesting going back into lockdown (although I am sure there are some!). As I understand it the discussion in the UK is more around delaying the further relaxations of rules in June to allow for more vaccinations to take place. Obviously different people can have views on whether that delay is itself worthwhile or not.

Here in California we also have a mid June target for opening fully. So far B.1.617 hasn’t got as much as a foothold as in UK but expect it only a matter of time given its apparent transmission improvement and so the same discussions will pop up here in the near future.

The thing that always struck me about the end of the world horror/thriller films was how quickly civilization fell.
The speed with which everything is (in reality) collapsing is frighteningly slow. To misquote The Godfather III 'Every time I think we are safe, a new strain locks us down.'
But this is not fiction, it is real life. You should all know I've followed the rules to the best of my ability (even getting into hot-ish water with my employer) and
no writer could have remained credible after 'inventing' people who refused to believe the disease was real or refused to obey measures or take vaccines.
I am not casting aspersions or demanding this or that but I do feel we are in serious trouble.
Virologists commented after MERS and SARs et al that it was only going to get worse and it did. Pessimistic much? Guilty. But I am 50 and lack the invulnerability (perceived or not) of youth. I also lack the pull of going out and the need to mingle (which I do remember being almost irresistable. FOMO and all that)
but i saw this cartoon and it pushed me to post my thoughts.
Maybe as an Evertonioan I lean more towards the bleak...who knows? All this is just me venting. Keep it civil lads and ladies.

CO2 monitors are relatively cheap so would be helpful if the levels could be used as a proxy.
Carbon Dioxide monitoring to lower the coronavirus threat

With evidence like this increasingly pointing towards airborne transmission being a major factor in the spread of the virus, the inference is that CO2 levels in rooms and other enclosed spaces may be used as a proxy for COVID-19 transmission risk.

“Since the coronavirus is spread through the air, higher CO2 levels in a room likely mean there is a higher chance of transmission if an infected person is inside”, leading aerosol scientist Prof Shelly Miller writes in The Conversation. “Simply put, the more fresh, outside air inside a building, the better. Bringing in this air dilutes any contaminant in a building, whether a virus or a something else, and reduces the exposure of anyone inside.”

I posted this on my return last Thursday which I think answers your question.

We're very good down here in Cornwall at following the rules. My experience in Liverpool last week is that there wasn't a great deal of difference, a bit more lax maybe but not much. And I did attend a couple of proper boozers during my short stay.
I must say having spent 3 days getting hammered back in Liverpool, a massive majority of people we came across were obeying covid rules, wearing masks etc. Some of the places we went in, and there were a couple of dives tbh, were maybe a bit lax with the SD rules, but from what some have been posting in here I was half expecting a maskless society and parties in the streets. I was pleasantly surprised and you can see why Merseyside is lower than 10 in the infection charts. :)

Oh yes

There was plenty of SD going on but no masks, tables spaced apart etc but still people having a good time, kids playing on the fair, parents having a picnic and bottle of lager.

Im not shouting anybody down, I just think regardless of what happens on 21st June, lockdown is over anyway. Only thing you can’t do is stand up in a boozer.

I hope this is a distortion because of all the surge testing

Stats don't always tell the full story Legs.

The weekly ONS survey testing doesn't show a great increase in infection rates, apart from in Scotland. Most of the rises in infection around the country can be linked to the Indian variant, and those worst hit have been targeted with surge testing. Firstly, it's reasonable to assume that if you are testing in the correct area's, and in the right way (these are being carried out by the army), then the testing will uncover significant numbers of positive samples, many of which will also be asymptomatic. There's also evidence over the last week that this surge testing is starting to win battles with the 3 most prominent areas effected by the Indian variant, Bolton, Bedford and Glasgow, all seeing infection rates plateau and start to fall. Another badly hit area, Blackburn, has seen a significant slow down too.

Infection rate is still continuing to rise in other areas of Scotland, Lancashire, West Yorkshire and the East Midlands, and to a lesser degree in some area's of the South East, but if they apply the same tactics in those areas I'm confident they can keep a lid on it. I hate to say it, and some on here may not like it, but Boris's wackamole may actually be working. ;) There are 2 factors all the areas of concern have in common. One is the take up of vaccines is significantly less than the national average, and the second is that there are communities where a large percentage of multi generation high occupancy living conditions. Some areas, such as Sefton who showed early signs of problems with the new variant, have practically erased the problem now and I believe that is down to not having the two factors mentioned above.

I honestly believe that the majority of the country will be Ok with this Indian variant because of the high level of vaccination take up and lower density of housing occupation. The Kent variant is already well and truly beaten.

There was a funfair by us the other weekend, and it was ace seeing the young uns having a ball. Seeing them play footie as well. They have been brilliant in helping look after the "at risk", Grannie basically, and only the coldest of hearts would not want them having fun.

Schools have been open for ages, and as far as I can see, zippo meaningful issues.
