Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

People have just become completely desensitised to the whole thing.

This thing is never going away, most people have accepted that and just want to get on with things now.

This is the maddest bit of it - that such an opinion has taken hold.

This will only ever go away (and we will only ever be able to get on with things) if we take it seriously (which means improved public health, improved awareness of infectious diseases, better help for people and businesses so they can cope in the event actions got to be taken); accepting it as just one of those things is going to mean we'll have to put up with restrictions of some sort or another for years.

So why aren’t the hospitals full of unvaccinated people then? Why is no one dying of “this variant”?

10% of the number in ICU having had both jabs implies that 90% of people in ICU didn't have both jabs. That should imply there are quite a few people in ICU in Bolton (or were, when Hancock said that).

10% of of those who have been fully vaccinated will become seriously ill with coronavirus, that equates to millions of people swamping and overwhelming the NHS, again. The NHS was in a perilous position to deal with any national emergency pre pandemic it's on it knees now 15 months of pandemic and it's lock downs and huge waiting lists. Alas our health and social care is in a worse position now than ever before.
Where are these stats from? Not even 10 percent of the unvaccinated population got seriously ill, by serious I assume we are talking ICU serious

Which equates to 4 people as I recall.

All of whom had prior serious underlying health problems > catching anything at all would be serious for them.

Yes, and as we should have found out by the past year there are hundreds of thousands of people with prior serious underlying health problems across the country. They've all (or at least the vast majority have) had both jabs. Letting this circulate again puts a lot of those people back in the firing line.

Rather than use percentages, what are the actual figures related to that? Because if 20 people were in Bolton ICU with Covid, 10% of that is just 2. So saying “10%” makes it seem big and scary when it in fact isn’t.

Perhaps you would like to direct any complaints to the Health Secretary? According to other posters here it is 4 people.

It was always going to be like this mate.

There was always going to be a point where people would shrug their shoulders and say sod it, let’s just get on with things.

There needs to be more carrot and less stick from now on, as @JLW says, no way are some of the public having lockdowns again - especially the youngsters.

4 people in Bolton ICU had had both jabs? So that’s 4 out of 40 people, and it wasn’t specified if they were admitted to ICU with Covid rather than a stroke or heart attack or something?

Consider me unconvinced by the scare stories.

Again as I recall, something like 80/85% in that hospital were people who could’ve / should’ve had jabs, but hadn’t for whatever reason. A handful had had one jab and the others few, had been vaccinated, but were very ill with other things prior to that.

No hospital figures reported today owing to bank holiday, last Monday’s total was 3

All settings - for the 28 day cut off, 1 death was reported today, down 5 on yesterday and down 2 on last Monday. The 7 day rolling average falls to 8.29

For the 60 day cut off, 1 death was reported today, down 6 on yesterday and down 2 on last Monday. The 7 day rolling average falls to 18.14

They’re always going to be in the firing line mate, as this things never going away.

This week it’s the Indian Variant, there’s now another one Thailand, which is supposed to be a mix of the Kent and Indian variant and even more potent.

No doubt, it’ll find its way over here and the press will be all over it like a bumming mongrel.

We can’t just keep locking down the country every time a new one “ pops “ up, as it surely will.
