Did that really happen?

My understanding was all those given their first jab before the government changed their policy were still given their second jab 3 weeks later

Yes: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/health/coronavirus-vaccine-gps-pfizer-doses-change-b1780852.html

I’d be interested in seeing how you’ve come to that understanding though - it’s not supported by the numbers (the increase in second doses in the period where that would have happened isn’t big enough for it to happen), I can’t recall having seen an authoritative report saying that was what they were doing and it flies in the face of the logic of doing it anyway.

Saving lives is appreciated. Using it as a platform for vainglory is not. The woman in question is a business woman as well as a scientist. I think that's worth pointing out.

You're letting personal animosity get in the way of reason. It's not my fault you post snide BS most of the time.
All business people should be burnt at the stake.

Back to the caves I say.

Not sure that any of that translates as "Your dates on AZ are incorrect", nor am I sure why per capita numbers have made an appearance given that wasn't what was said either.

Even if we had only been at just those 1.8 million you mention who we know could have been fully vaccinated by February 8th - which as a reminder for everyone else is around 1.2 million more elderly and extremely vulnerable people fully vaccinated than we did have by that point - we'd be third in terms of actual numbers of people fully vaccinated.

Moreover if Pfizer only rolled out at the level you cite for the first month of the programme (so another 1.8 million people given Pfizer first jabs in the month from January 8th to February 8th), that is still an extra 450,000 who'd we'd expect to have had their second Pfizer by February 8th (given the 21 day dosing schedule). That would put us just above Israel, into second in terms of overall numbers given a second dose.

As I said earlier, I think that is an under-count of what we could have potentially been at anyway because of how the vaccination programme ramped up from the start of January onwards.

Because that’s the measure that was being used in the original post of mine which you quoted. We’re 7th in the per capita measure on second doses.

still not seeing where the error you are accusing me of making is, unless only per capita numbers are valid?

You said we could have had 2.5m people double dosed by the 8th of Feb, but that’s impossible as hundreds of thousands of the 2.29m vaccinations up to Jan 8th were AZ.

If you’re saying you acknowledge that hundreds of thousands of AZ doses were given by Jan 8th then that number of 2.5m double dosed by Feb 8th is wide of the mark by half a million. It would have to be Pfizer for all 2.29m second doses to be close, but even then you wouldn’t hit 2.5m.

You actually said 2.5m to 4.5m double dosed by Feb 8th in the original post which was definitely impossible. Even if 3 weeks was used as the schedule 4.5m is far higher than what would have been achievable. You’d have to have vaccinated another 2 million people with Pfizer in the following week and vaccinated them all again three weeks later to be at 4.5m double dosed by Feb 8th.
