Due to fly to the Caribbean next Monday. Taking my little girl on her first holiday. Not feeling particularly enthusiastic about air travel atm. Not because I think we'll get the virus per se, but more because one suspected case on your complex and bang, you're in your room for two weeks with potential delays.

Just gonna have to keep an eye on this over the next few days. If it was just me and the wife I'd be less arsed, but as other parents will know, the baby adds a new dynamic.

So we went despite me suggesting we shouldn't to the wife (they never listen, do they?).

As I expected, it was the least relaxing holiday ever as the Dominicans closed the border on Monday. If it wasn't for Tui we could have been stuck there. We had a flight out yesterday. After an eight hour delay we finally got home in the end. There are lots of Americans and Canadians who can't make it back as their smaller airlines have gone bump. I fear for their safety but I'm so glad we made it home. That place and many others are going to deteriorate very quickly without tourism. The staff were lovely given that they'll all be out of work by next week.

Anyway, very grateful to be back home and safe even if I can't get hold of milk. Lol.

You got over not knowing which Irish player scored in the ECWC, nor who got the winner against Wimbledon?

Despite meeting him recently??

Yeah, some of us were listening!

Thought it was the younger generation that were arseholes , I can’t keep up
Think it's probably a bit of both tbf, but some of the elder generations certainly don't help themselves.

I spoke to my eldest brother yesterday for the first time since this virus outbreak became more serious. He's over 70 but as fit as a fiddle. His wife is also over 70 but has a serious respiratory illness, and also had a heart attack about 5 years ago.

On top of that his grand daughter is currently undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer. She has a young child who is about 3.

I phoned him yesterday, mainly to enquire over my great niece. Found out that she was there in the house with them so had a chat with her. With her immune system being wiped out by the chemo I mentioned whether she shouldn't be self isolating and I don't think she even grasped what I was asking her.

Spoke to the brother again and was telling him about my trip to the supermarket this week, and he said he wouldn't know what they were like near him as Lin (his wife) does all the shopping. I also found out that she also looks after the great grandchild whilst he mother goes to hospital for chemo, and also looks after her other grandchild everyday. I asked him 3 times about Lin self isolating and he just ignored me and changed the subject.

He did say they had cancelled mothers day lunch this weekend, but I'll guarantee it'll be all round to his for Sunday lunch instead. With Lin doing the shopping and the cooking.

Me and the missus are wondering whether we should be doing more social distancing and then we come across such a lack of self awareness. The mind boggles.

Had a massive disagreement with my mother earlier. She suffers from MS so is obviously in danger from this virus, yet she just refuses to stay indoors. Ffs. Now I know what it was like for her....

Confirmed cases is not something that should be used to present these and I use the term lightly "facts". The most important number and a number that we may never know is unconfirmed cases from those with no symptoms, on the diamond princess over half of confirmed cases were people who had no symptoms and never developed symptoms.
They shouldn't be using confirmed cases to present mortality rate as its bordering on scaremongering because it gives a higher number by at least a factor of 2, probably more.

Good point mate fair play. I don't their is one distinguishable fact, but many variables as you say.

Perhaps we should all use a degree of caution when we are using numbers, especially those likely to be limited that are in the public domain.

Well it could be say a full UBI whilst people are not receiving any income, which they could check, and then it be gradually lessened depending on what people are earning at the time.

Example I'm currently still at work on full pay so my UBI would be zero, but if we get shut down for 3 months and work won't pay I'll be on full etc.
Yeah this is bordering on a whole different discussion about UBI vs. unemployment but I agree with the general sentiment.

What about Florida though - there's tens of thousands of young people on a week long bender., It's like virus heaven

But Is there any beer and or tonic water ???

Don’t get me wrong I enjoy a single malt Or a glass of wine with the best of them and despite not usually drinking in the house unless entertaining if I’m not going the boozer like the sky sports package that’s getting paused but no tonic ! I’m not happy
