Looks like a few of us will be getting letters from the NHS mon/tue telling us to self isolate. At exactly the same time as the primary schools have shut down and I’m supposed to be looking after my granddaughter....
They’ve already told parents that they shouldn’t be putting their kids with grandparents though.

FFS, you keep on saying that Pete, that's not the only option, and if you all have to isolate together,so be it.

Suspended doesn't mean you don't ever have to pay it though right? So for people who lose their jobs eventually that still runs out.

Well no, of course not, but I'm just saying UBI has to be enough to live on, not necessarily enough to save for your future. If that makes sense. I think 300 per week when bills are frozen is more than enough per person.

Confirmed cases is not something that should be used to present these and I use the term lightly "facts". The most important number and a number that we may never know is unconfirmed cases from those with no symptoms, on the diamond princess over half of confirmed cases were people who had no symptoms and never developed symptoms.
They shouldn't be using confirmed cases to present mortality rate as its bordering on scaremongering because it gives a higher number by at least a factor of 2, probably more.
S Korea with lots of testing, an unusual amount of young women (low risk group) having the infection, quick isolation and non swamped healthcare system is now at 1.1% case fatality rate and despite their best efforts still gradually climbing sadly.

Are there more infected mild/asymptotic cases out there that they haven't tested that could bring that CFC number down, yes, but there are also a lot of elements to suggest that Europe/US will be lucky to keep it at that level.

Yes but if the proposal is for it to happen for the two months of the crisis (or however many it is) and then to immediately stop people will be rapidly screwed once we get back to "normal" as the economy is almost certainly going to be in the crapper for a little bit and unemployment will be up.

What about say a UBI that gradually decreases over time as the economy improves and people get back into employment?

That's a fine idea, I actually don't like the idea of UBI that is always going on because in my opinion it shouldn't be necessary for working people to get more money beyond their income, but that isn't where the proposals on this side of the Atlantic are at currently.

Well it could be say a full UBI whilst people are not receiving any income, which they could check, and then it be gradually lessened depending on what people are earning at the time.

Example I'm currently still at work on full pay so my UBI would be zero, but if we get shut down for 3 months and work won't pay I'll be on full etc.
