This is what’s been puzzling me about italy. They’ve been on lockdown and not going out for what, a week now? The shops are empty, only one at a time being admitted. But the death toll keeps on rising, so there must be another reason. Is it that older family members are often living at home with the family? They don’t stick their old folk in homes like we do. And we don’t seem to ever hear what the ages of the dead are as a percentage. e.g. are they overwhelmingly over 80 say, or 90?Spain: 20410 cases; 1041 deaths
Germany: 18450 cases; 53 deaths
despite the much better healthcare system in Germany, there has to be some kind of difference on what a "death from coronavirus" means in each country

Physical contact is a very big cultural norm in Italy. Good piece in the Guardian about lessons to learn from a town in Italy.
