3rd community acquired case

And 4th community spread plus one travel case, both in Washington and neither is seriously ill.

Hopefully this uptick in cases is a reflection of more testing.

I had been a bit taken aback early in the week at statements by some market analytics firms that were subtly intimating that this administration's handling of the situation bore more similarities to Iran than to South Korea. When you're saying things like "we increasingly find it hard to believe" that there are not more cases in the US, you're at a minimum insinuating deception if not out and out calling the government a bunch of liars.

Now the problem with the administration's approach is plain enough to see. If you don't test for it because you don't want to find it and panic the markets, you don't find it. But the markets are smarter than that, and they panicked anyway because the trend towards global community spread was clear enough.

Does anyone else find it ironic that the whole point of being a private company is that you don't have to manage to the demands of financial markets, and yet when the voters installed the head of a private company in the presidency he immediately began trying to manage to the demands of financial markets with potentially disastrous consequences?
@kinhell mate, it's scary enough coming in this thread and looking at all the posts about this virus, then I see your Avi, is it Peter Sutcliffe?

LBC just reported first case of virus been detected in Sussex the news the government are dreading as the person has not been abroad or in contact of anyone from the already infected countries .....In otherwords caught it maybe locally in everyday life .......shopping etc etc ........worrying as per incubation some of the public are walking around with no symptoms, but obviously carririors .....the person has been put in a isolation unit in Sussex ......breaking news sorry if someone else has posted this .....

It is getting increasingly worrying. Is this a separate one from what the BBC reported last night? They said first case found in Surrey.

Yes it was Surrey on LBC before but still rushed to an isolation unit in London no contact with the normal contact of outside this country though - I was at an NHS hospital for an ultrasound xRay on my aorta heart valve - the nurse stated it's too late the horse has bolted as the incubation of any virus cannot be detected so it will spread, but it's nothing to get alarmed about .....funny never had to wait the waiting room was deserted ......urm funny that actually I never had reservations on attending that appointment, but the room was deserted bar one other couple......
When I left at 3-30 pm no one waiting?

I've gone from being very alarmed by the virus to not giving a toss.

It's probably the healthy attitude, seeing how there's very little any of us individually can do.

Incorrect testing? Outliers?

Could be false positives; tests are not 100% reliable. However, dormancy is not unprecedented in humans (eg: chicken pox -> shingles, cold sores), though this would be a vastly shorter dormant period. Really bad news if that turns out to be the case and people become severely ill again. Probably less of a problem in the limit if the infected become asymptomatic carriers, but has the potential to turn into a bad sci-fi story in multiple ways as well.

Damien Thomas.

Due to fly to the Caribbean next Monday. Taking my little girl on her first holiday. Not feeling particularly enthusiastic about air travel atm. Not because I think we'll get the virus per se, but more because one suspected case on your complex and bang, you're in your room for two weeks with potential delays.

Just gonna have to keep an eye on this over the next few days. If it was just me and the wife I'd be less arsed, but as other parents will know, the baby adds a new dynamic.
