Happy Birthday for yesterday. How old are you if you don't mind me asking? Just wanted to see where in the age range they are at the moment...

My director at work has just now had her call to go for her jab on Friday (this is South Yorkshire, Barnsley). She's 52. Second one booked in already too, for June.

Guess each area will differ depending on population, distribution, supply etc.

My mum is getting her first jab this afternoon and is 58. Second one booked in for early June. This is West Yorks (Wakefield).

Just got back after having mine.

Gnats piss.

It wasn't a great experience, it has to be said.

I didn't think the place was up to it; staff were vigilant, like: wiping down and making sure the people intent on having a chin cradle rather than a mask pulled up were instructed to wear their masks correctly. But the social distancing was appalling, IMO. A windowless room; entrance permanently open but the exit door swung open only when we were vaccinated and let out. As I counted, 60 people in that room at the one time and I was back to back with one feller, and I could easily reach out in front to touch the chair of two other people in front of me. I waited for 35 minutes for my shot. I rolled up earlier and I was allowed in 10 minutes before my appointment, which was no doubt leading to the large number of people in the room (which wasn't that big - certainly nowhere near gym-size). So the stewarding outside was the first line problem.

I think the volume they're trying to get through is compromising the system they have in that particular location - which I'll leave un-named as I dont want people not turning up on my account and missing their jabs.

Cant wait for the side effects.

What a surprise that issues that you claim people you'd spoke to have said were an issue actually happen to be the same issues that you've now found... whereas the vast majority of people have had far differing experiences.

Anyway, glad you've got it. Hopefully you don't suffer any side-effects and it works for you. As you say, it's likely location, especially in a city area?

Begs the question why the Government are not all over this directing supplies to COVAX program. Plenty of other countries who need vaccine. Instead it engages in finger wagging.

Let's get ourselves into a strong position first and foremost.

We need to keep this rate of vaxxing up to get us out of lockdown, especially with more and more now becoming ready for their second jabs.

People getting told exactly when their second jabs will be - which they now are - wouldn't be possible right now if we didn't have the stocks lined up.

So no, it doesn't beg any question, at all.

Seriously though folks, have any vaccine you’re offered.

11 million doses given and just 28 adverse reactions is excellent.

Its not “ just 28 adverse reactions” - its 28 instances of unexpected blood clots after a jabs been given; the total reported adverse outcomes of all kinds post-jab in the UK for AZ is 54000 (which is still a tiny %, but it’s a lot more than 28). Pfizer has 24000 odd.

Important to note here that the most frequent adverse reactions includes sore arm, headaches, mild flu symptoms etc which are all fully expected reactions and nothing at all to worry about.

Not saying you were but in case anyone reads this and thinks there are loads of weird reactions happening and gets nervous.

If you got offered the AZ jab this week, would you take it?

Absolutely, and I would have before this, but it’s important to be correct with describing these type of issues with vaccines or you just shred public confidence when reports come out (like what has come up in Europe over the past week) that appear to contradict the glowing reports people have been coming out with.

Indeed, but my point was that @Groucho’s post appeared to say that there had only been 28 adverse outcomes; there’s been many more than that (of all kinds as you say).

Okay.

I don't disagree that it's better to take precautions but as long as they're investigated and solved early. Europe, the UK and indeed the rest of the world aren't in a position to be stopping and starting vaccine roll outs. We just aren't.

The contraceptive pill has a higher incidence of thromboembolic events than the AZ vaccine.

In the meantime, the USA, UK and EU have this week rejected a proposal by India and South Africa to temporarily waive intellectual property rights to vaccines, allowing them to be mass produced extremely cheaply, making them available to the vast majority of humanity, and ending the pandemic as quickly as possible.

Are the likes of Italy having another new wave or is this their 3rd wave where we've already had our 3rd?
I would argue that this was actually our second wave, not the third. The lockdown we had in November only temporarily slowed down the second wave so the shops could reopen pre Christmas and so people could come together over Christmas. Everybody knew we were heading for another lockdown post Christmas which is what has happened.

So this wave is just a continuance of the one that started in the Autumn. During this wave the "Kent variation" came to the fore in the UK, and that variant is now becoming dominant across mainland Europe too, and countries there are struggling to cope with the increased virulence. Most countries across Europe have been in some sort of lockdown since November, and many were starting to gradually reduce the restrictions, and Italy is one such country. However because of the new variant they are having to reintroduce the stricter regulations. Some countries, such as France and Spain, are also struggling to cope with the new variant even though they kept the stricter guidelines in place throughout (stricter than the UK with nighttime curfews etc).

Over the last month the UK has seen infections reduce substantially despite the more infectious variant being totally dominant, and in many cases having a less severe lockdown. Across Europe, infection rates are rising as the new variant takes hold. One reason for the UK being more effective in fighting the stronger variant is that we are more advanced with our vaccination programme.

On one hand I can understand countries being cautious as regards this blood clot issue, but the other side of me is surprised that so many countries are allowing this caution to eat into their vaccine program given it's one of only two major vaccines available at the moment. Especially given the fact that infection rates are getting worse in a lot of them. The other thing I don't understand is that the blood clot stats for Pfizer vaccinations are very similar, but nobody seems to be bothered by this.
