Just got back after having mine.

Gnats piss.

It wasn't a great experience, it has to be said.

I didn't think the place was up to it; staff were vigilant, like: wiping down and making sure the people intent on having a chin cradle rather than a mask pulled up were instructed to wear their masks correctly. But the social distancing was appalling, IMO. A windowless room; entrance permanently open but the exit door swung open only when we were vaccinated and let out. As I counted, 60 people in that room at the one time and I was back to back with one feller, and I could easily reach out in front to touch the chair of two other people in front of me. I waited for 35 minutes for my shot. I rolled up earlier and I was allowed in 10 minutes before my appointment, which was no doubt leading to the large number of people in the room (which wasn't that big - certainly nowhere near gym-size). So the stewarding outside was the first line problem.

I think the volume they're trying to get through is compromising the system they have in that particular location - which I'll leave un-named as I dont want people not turning up on my account and missing their jabs.

Cant wait for the side effects.

Glad you’ve had it mate.....

Its not “ just 28 adverse reactions” - its 28 instances of unexpected blood clots after a jabs been given; the total reported adverse outcomes of all kinds post-jab in the UK for AZ is 54000 (which is still a tiny %, but it’s a lot more than 28). Pfizer has 24000 odd.

35 (AZ) against 22(Pfizer) as of the beginning of the month. Risk profiles for clotting (thrombocytopenia) roughly the same for both vaccines.

Just in....

Macron has said that if the AZ is good enough for @davek then it’s good enough for him and the French population. Frau Merkel said she’d wait and see how Dave is tomorrow before lifting the ban. The EMA have sent Dave a token of appreciation. Meanwhile Davek himself said that it was a doddle, has no side effects, and looks forward to many more years of Tory rule......

The contraceptive pill has a higher incidence of thromboembolic events than the AZ vaccine.

In the meantime, the USA, UK and EU have this week rejected a proposal by India and South Africa to temporarily waive intellectual property rights to vaccines, allowing them to be mass produced extremely cheaply, making them available to the vast majority of humanity, and ending the pandemic as quickly as possible.
THIS is doing my head in. Property rights should be waived asap.

Nothing wrong with going out locally I just don't see it as a holiday. Obviously we go out locally all the time but its just not the same as a proper break abroad or even away in the UK. I personally do think by June we'll be able to go to places across the UK and maybe even abroad.
But when you go out locally, do you go and do the things that tourists would normally do?

It isn't just about going out, it's about acting as if you were on holiday. When was the last time you visited the Albert Dock (I don't mean for a bevvie, but to visit one or more of the 5 museums and art galleries there) or one of the museums and cathedrals, The Bluecoat or St Georges Hall, or one of the many stately homes, or the Cavern Club or one of he beatles residents owned by the National Trust.? When was the last time you went on the Mersey Ferry. Outside of peak hours it does 1 hour tours.

If you've done some of the above, that's great. If you haven't, all I'm saying is don't knock it until you try it. You may surprise yourself how much you enjoy it. We always did, but I get that sightseeing is not for everybody.

Just seen Bidens speech from the other day, hes saying if everyone is vaccinated people might be able to meet outdoors in July? Seems overly cautious?

Obviously Texas and other states are completely reopening already so surely it will be difficult to keep other states completely closed?

Nice one.

Where can I read about this super vaccine?

I haven't got anything to hand right atm but the principles behind the methodology are explained in this piece from Medical Research Council in Cambridge (from last December).

It's essentially looking at the 'N' core protein within the virus and adapting the new generation of Covid vaccines accordingly. It's a little bit complicated for non scientists but does have diagrams and gives a far better overview of the ideas behind it rather than just explaining through words alone.

There is also a new multi variant Covid booster vaccine using the existing mRNA techniques being developed atm by CureVac in conjunction with GSK which will be able to be adapted quickly to add new variants.
