Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Thats a bit hyperdramatic mate, you need to read again what i posted about the concerning clots vs day to day general clot stats.

I was highlighting facts not over dramatising them, it's hardly very credible to think a pause will help matters when the opposite is far more true. The facts are that extensive vaccine trials are halted at every stage in the process were the slightest adverse reaction is detected, as was the case with the AZ one.

It's extremely rare for unforseen side effects to be undetected although not impossible, and while it's always good to be cautious there can be a case for overdoing it were they are statistically insignificant or minimal.

Blood clots anywhere when combined with low blood platelets can lead to brain haemorrhages, strokes and other serious consequences. There are a whole variety of causes and a low level of occurrences amongst the general population will happen anyway. High blood pressure is something we should all watch and control if we can.

Medical conditions, even very serious ones, usually have their route causes in more mundane things like a sedentary lifestyle leading to high blood pressure leading to thromboses and catastrophic consequences if not detected early enough. This is why blood clots have to be taken seriously

Again, I’m not disagreeing, I think this is an over cautious approach by some countries and I think AZ will be proven to be fine. But I do think there is a logic based on a risk assessment that has informed this decision. Statistics can be gleamed anyway, I’ve already said the concern isn’t the rate of general clots you are talking about statistically - in fact I first posted the figures here on Sun morning for Az and Pfizer. But a noted trend in young health care professionals of specific brain clots or contributing symptoms was alerted through out the world on Sat, with a correlation of post vaccination. So the real comparison statistically is the prevalence of brain clots/symptoms in that young healthy cohort vaccinated as opposed to the general non vaccinated usually. My understanding is that is the focus or query. Of note, I think it will be fine and the delay stood down.

As for more harm then not I can only talk about our situation, we were one of the first to pause, we’ve just gone 2 days with 0, Covid deaths and as it stands have 350 people in hospital with Covid. While the vaccination programme is continuing, just no AZ. It’s hardly the desperate situation people paint on here.

Elsewise I posted yesterday, trial data isn’t infallible, it’s generally accepted that it’s not as robust in real life situations. For example all the vaccines efficacy’s are likely lower then clinical trials. Because the data is evaluated in perfect trial conditions without real world environmental factors. For example
the vaccine efficiency hasn’t been tested on 1000 people waiting for the tube or 300 people crammed into the one carriage, it’s judged on a perfect trial environment, so those caveats exist, so to be honest new data from trial to real world application often is updated.

I think we are in broad agreement though, I think it’s an over cautious step, but can understand the logic, no need to take the risk, im sure AZ will be fine and this pause stood down quite shortly.

The results on both vaccines are roughly the same for side effects.
Only one of them is non profit , give a quess which one has the bad press?
Begs the question why the Government are not all over this directing supplies to COVAX program. Plenty of other countries who need vaccine. Instead it engages in finger wagging.

Has any expert made a recent prediction of when the pandemic ends?

Was the "the Spanish flu" two years without a vaccine?

It’ll be 29, @davek gets his today. The whole of Europe and GOT is waiting and watching..........
Just got back after having mine.

Gnats piss.

It wasn't a great experience, it has to be said.

I didn't think the place was up to it; staff were vigilant, like: wiping down and making sure the people intent on having a chin cradle rather than a mask pulled up were instructed to wear their masks correctly. But the social distancing was appalling, IMO. A windowless room; entrance permanently open but the exit door swung open only when we were vaccinated and let out. As I counted, 60 people in that room at the one time and I was back to back with one feller, and I could easily reach out in front to touch the chair of two other people in front of me. I waited for 35 minutes for my shot. I rolled up earlier and I was allowed in 10 minutes before my appointment, which was no doubt leading to the large number of people in the room (which wasn't that big - certainly nowhere near gym-size). So the stewarding outside was the first line problem.

I think the volume they're trying to get through is compromising the system they have in that particular location - which I'll leave un-named as I dont want people not turning up on my account and missing their jabs.

Cant wait for the side effects.
