I dont have to make things up.
There was no second wave when pubs and retail was open like you screamed about for months.
The second wave came when schools and universities opened up and the cold weather started to creep in.

Dont really care about overseas travellers trying to get in. Keep them out. Every single case has come from overseas, and Aussies complaining anout not being able to get back in should have done so when they had the chance last year.
Victoria recorded 1 case in the last 24 hours. NSW and its millions of people 0 locally aquired cases - all from quarantine.
I get what you are saying but I go about my day as I ever have*.
*crosses fingers
That's all well and good and I'm chuffed for you. The lockdown in Victoria will work and you'll be out of it by Wednesday.
But that's not the point, it's not 'normality' and you can't possibly suggest that Australia keeping overseas travellers out for (how long?) is a less-temporary fix than the vaccine, which will prevent serious illness against every strain (even the SA variant, with the Pfizer and Moderna ones in most age groups it seems, and the AZ vaccine in younger age groups against that variant).

I get your point about normality, i really do, but the case for quaranting is a really strong one.
I just dont see how hurrying into largely untested (we have absolutely no idea how long term vaccinations will affect people) vaccine program will work when these mutations take over. I really hope its all good in the end, but you cant deny we have crushed it here with simple steps.
I said at the time one was coming. Not because one was there, but because it's a pandemic, and that's the road they travel. You didnt have to be a mystic to understand it was coming. The scientists were telling us all it was on its way. Many ignored it because it gave them the excuse to crack on with the 'old normal'.There was no second wave when pubs and retail was open like you screamed about for months.

But it's not a long-term fix. It can't possibly be. The only long-term fix is herd immunity, and the vaccine takes steps towards that.
It's great that...
a) the steps Aus/NZ took worked very well
b) it's your summer - but you'll see a rise, however small, in cases in the winter
c) you have it under such control that there'll be no need to rush into the vaccine programme 'untested' because the rest of the world is piloting it ahead of you. By the time it starts in Aus/NZ (March to May?) there should be plenty of data on just how well it works
but the simple steps Aus/NZ took are temporary, because you can't possibly expect that either country, for years to come, are going to be quarantining people coming into the country or going into snap lockdowns for 10 people getting it
Here’s some data on first doses and their effect on spread and illness - to me that seems like we won’t be getting out of jail overnight.

It'll be early to mid May when the first measures are lifted and not until June/July that we're effectively out of it but with social distancing.
And then of course a completely inevitable second wave around September/October.
Two things:
1/ was the data for the over-60s off one jab?
2/ is the data regarding 60 and under without vaccines (making the comparison)?
Our analysis revealed that in the past week, approximately one and a half month after the initiation of the vaccination campaign, with 80% of individuals older than 60 years old already vaccinated (February 6th, 2021), there was an approximately 49% drop in number of cases, 36% drop in COVID-19 related hospitalizations and 29% drop in critically ill patients compared to 21 days ago. Although multiple other factors may have influenced these results, several observations suggest that these patterns are driven to a considerable degree by the vaccines. First, the decline in the measures above is greater in older individuals who were prioritized to receive the vaccine earlier. Second, the effect was greater in cities and GSAs where a higher fraction of individuals were vaccinated earlier.
