Anyone offerd a choice who was informed about it and who are over-65 would swerve the AZ jab

Just looking at the figures on the roll out of the vaccine on the Island of Ireland.

Isn't that much difference between the two jurisdictions considering NI has had three vaccines for an additional month compared to the Republics two and the differing spacing out policy between the first and second Jabs difference by the NHS and HSE.

N.I.: 204,065

Republic: 147,700

I dont blame them.

Each national body in the EU will respind in the coming week. I expect all but the most desperate to roll it out in a targeted fashion.
As things stand and considering a targeted approach it looks like the only feasible vaccinations for developing world distribution are AZ and the J&J vaccines assuming approval.

That said there was an article by the UN last year that took the position of the cold chain requirements of Pfizer and Moderna offering an infrastructure development opportunity across the developing nations. It's a nice idea but logic would suggest that that vaccine development will eat up any funds available - unless the private sector steps in.

I don't know about that, Dave. There will be many that have heard that mRNA vaccines are a new innovation that has not been used before and will view it with some fear of what-ifs and turning into Mr. Hyde!

So it's better to take the Pfizer one for which there is no evidence on how it works with a 12 week break between doses than the AZ one for which there is some evidence it works in over 65's? Don't think that makes much sense

"A WHO spokeswoman, Margaret Harris, said she wanted to appeal to people in the UK, telling them: “You can wait” because ensuring equitable global distribution is “clearly morally the right thing to do”."

What a clown - sound Margaret well you pay the mortgages of all those furloughed / out of work whilst we wait and you have a deal.
The WHO, unfortunately, are beholden to political influence and therefore are basically a complete irrelevance in this discussion. It's like the Pope calling for peace during a World War - all very nice to do, but actual reality gets in the way.

The UK government will, correctly, emphasise the vaccination of their own populace, like any country would do. Charity begins at home. I'm sure we'll be supplying massive amounts when we have excess.

On another note, 600k vaccines in one day - staggering achievement. Four weeks ago I was expecting that to be around the weekly amount at best given the Tory track record.

Not far off 1% of the population in a day is very impressive
