After 10 months without a single case, it was inevitible that we would finally get one. Great to see the Premier get on top of it straight away with an immediate 5 day lockdown, hopefully we can nip it in the bud and get back to normal next week.
Pretty much what happened in Brisbane the other week.
Edit; I can see people rolling eyes at us going on about a mere 5 day lockdown and one case
For what it's worth they have my deepest sympathy - we've had it relatively easy here

yep, and your state managed it pretty well too, but also gave us some insights into what didn't work so well so we could imrpove our response.
Thank God we have decent leaders that actually care about people

On a related point, reports here, (UK), today are saying the Aussie RFU board have offered to host the South Africa Lions tour there. All profits, after hosting costs are deducted, go to SA RFU.

Pretty decent if true/possible. Just not sure how many Aussies would want to watch a SA/Lions match, cos I doubt you would want 000's of visiting fans, rightly so.

aye but thing is until you get the vaccines this is gonna be a thing and I imagine that Aus will see a spike (obviously all relative, yours will be tiny) when winter comes mate.

But you'll be able to deal with it I'm sure.

Probably enough ex pats from UK and SA to fill the stadiums. Having been lucky enough to watch a lions tour in oz I can highly recommend the experience

Essentially there just isn't enough data mate and you could suggest either protection or a dipping of protection in over 65s, the article tries to be balanced which is why i posted it.

One thing strikes me though in analysis, AZ has got through regulation, but have a look at Sanofi, they have gone back to the drawing board because they have clear data that their vaccine that does not show a "safe" level of protection in over 65s and the changes of the immune system going forward from there. AZ might well be fine, but we dont know really. If Sanofi didn't have the data in their trial for over 65s and went for regulation would it have been approved - its an interesting one.

Still while the data isnt there, AZ does seem to offer some protection and checking bloods and the like there does to see to be (some) antibody response.
The AZ vaccine would never be licensed under any other circumstances than the one we're in. It's faled to produce the required data to justify universal roll out, and it's use clearly should be targeted.

Ild like to hear from the scientists on this project rather than the commercial directors of AZ handing us their assurances.

Or Belgium and French Presidents.

I agree that to settle the worry that has been whipped up around the AZ vaccine we need to hear the findings of the study currently underway and not soundbites and point-scoring from political leaders looking to deflect from or improve their position and standing.

Edit: highlighted the previous, now.

Our health service here hasn't decided to give it to over 65s here yet mate.

I dont blame them.

Each national body in the EU will respind in the coming week. I expect all but the most desperate to roll it out in a targeted fashion.

Be an interesting study in itself - you have a choice of three vaccines which do you take!

I didn't see it but i heard, there was an interview on British TV in the early stages of roll out of Pfizer, a pensioner was asked whether they were going to take the vaccine and the response was no they were going to wait for the British one.

Anyone offerd a choice who was informed about it and who are over-65 would swerve the AZ jab
