When you have a system where people are on low hourly rates combined with low guaranteed hours and have to rely on overtime, productivity bonuses and other "perks" to bring in a living wage and make ends meet then this is what happens.

Working from home isn't feasible for a huge number of the workforce and most businesses can't, or won't, take the hit of paying people full sick pay for indefinite periods.

Also a large number of people don’t care about anyone other than themselves.

How many people who died in road traffic accidents during July and August had actually been tested positive for the covid virus.
No idea. Dare say it will be somewhere in the report itself. The number from car accidents isn't important anyway though. It's the total number of instances where deaths have been recorded as COVID when the study found this default type classification was giving the wrong impression.

I don't really think it is, pretty much every expert during the first lockdown said test amd trace would be essential to the re-opening process
Don't I recall that Whitty supported use of the herd immunity as the first line approach -- and that it was Cummins who led the advice not to?
Truth is, there is absolutely no consensus within the medical community and many of the issues and policies. It might seem like there is if all you consider is the Tv and newspaper coverage.

We’re practically doing herd immunity by default just by being a nation of thickos that hate following rules.

Hospital figures - 33 deaths were announced today, up 7 on yesterday and up 9 on last Thursday. 30 deaths were in English hospitals, up 7 on yesterday and up 12 on last week with all occurring in the past 10 days. The 7 day rolling average rises to 21.43

All settings - for the 28 day cut off, 40 deaths were announced today, up 3 on yesterday and up 19 on last Thursday. The 7 day rolling average rises to 28.14

For the 60 day cut off, 44 deaths were announced today, down 13 on yesterday and up 12 on last Thursday. The 7 day rolling average rises to 34.86

For the legacy/no cut off, 92 deaths were announced today, up 5 on yesterday and up 24 on last Thursday. The 7 day rolling average rises to 71.71

Not denying your key points, but flu killed 28,000 only 5 years ago. Average deaths in the last 5 years is 17,000. Young children are more vulnerable to death from flu than from Covid.

This is by far the most frustrating anti-restriction argument. It seems to go amiss that 40,000 people died in this country in a matter of weeks, and that number would be up towards 500,000 if we hadn’t done anything. Stop comparing it as near equal to the flu.

I'm not talking about first line approach I'm talking about the interview that was quoted and I haven't seen anything other that a solid consensus that test and trace is essential to re-opening
