"It cant be done, Dave. There's no way the government can keep on paying out cash for wages. You're cracked".

That'll help reduce hours employees need to be in work, and although it stops short of furloughing and shutting down, it'll help.

I suspect they're all down and miserable but I suspect they're not "all depressed".

That word is used far too easily to describe being unhappy.
As i said you can only take his word for it cant ya

dont get why people get so offended from the sometimes misuse of the word depressed, obviously dosent mean anything sinster your just being picky

Well this one pays a third, the old scheme paid up to 80%.

Quite a difference Dave tbf...

You said the current level of support was sustainable. It clearly wasn't.

You can keep trying to argue you've been proven right though, it's getting me through the working day lol

These the same ones telling us earlier in the year that Sweden had completely gone the wrong way?

Note: I'm not saying the UK taking Sweden's approach would have worked. Apples and oranges, I know. Just shows, nobody knows the best way to sort this and lockdown can't actually be proved to 100% work until we come out of it completely and return to normal life.

Obviously, rates need to be low for that to happen but it has to happen at some point soon.

I think you're confusing one Dr's opinion with general scientific consensus.

What are your ideas for controlling the spread of an aerosol virus without people remaining distanced from each other? Or you just let it rip?

Well it's not really on me to think of it.

But, as it is we have to keep certain measures (i.e. masks) in place and these restrictions - to get us through winter.

However, we've had six months to come up with a useable track and trace system which would lay the foundations for us to move forward out of having lockdown as the only option.

And, partly, there does come a time where, yes, a virus that is going to be here for a while has to be lived with. You have to ensure that people in the most vulnerable groups are protected as much as possible so any vaccine that is developed should be provided to the people in those groups first.

People can have this and be seriously ill. People can have it and have a mild fever. People can have it and not be ill at all.

Didn't mean it like that.

it's an example of how the experts can't agree what the best solution is.

The only way to prove how much lockdown has worked is whenever we come out of the restrictions.

I know that's a while off but it's already a failing in my eyes that in the six months since the spread in Europe, other solutions have not been found, or one solution such as track and trace has been developed so poorly.
