Well this one pays a third, the old scheme paid up to 80%.

Quite a difference Dave tbf...

You said the current level of support was sustainable. It clearly wasn't.

You can keep trying to argue you've been proven right though, it's getting me through the working day lol
£1.3 billion per month it'll cost.

"There's no more cash, Dave. Stop talking nonsense".

:coffee:

He didn't say it was equivalent. He said it will help.

It still won't help a lot of people enough, and this isn't necessarily a criticism of the government, as they're pumping a lot of money in and are covering as much as possible.

The only way to actually save jobs and people's livelihoods is to get out of this as quickly as possible, not keep in a limbo of restrictions like some people seem to want.

Come spring we should never be considering going into any form of lockdown again.

Well it's not really on me to think of it.

But, as it is we have to keep certain measures (i.e. masks) in place and these restrictions - to get us through winter.

However, we've had six months to come up with a useable track and trace system which would lay the foundations for us to move forward out of having lockdown as the only option.

And, partly, there does come a time where, yes, a virus that is going to be here for a while has to be lived with. You have to ensure that people in the most vulnerable groups are protected as much as possible so any vaccine that is developed should be provided to the people in those groups first.

People can have this and be seriously ill. People can have it and have a mild fever. People can have it and not be ill at all.

Sadly the masses have been petrified by the mass media hypnotism that we are only safe in lockdown forever or until a magical vaccine appears and is distributed to 70 million people whenever that will be .

I do half agree.

There's obviously a very real threat and as it stands we have to have restrictions in place to get us through winter. I don't agree with the consensus that nothing else could be done, as we've had six-seven months of knowing this thing was here (even though it has 100% been around longer) and what it does to people, or can do to people if they are unlucky enough to get badly affected by it.

There is obviously concern and there has to be a duty of responsibility and caring attitude.

On the other hand, it can't go on forever, and really it can't go on until a vaccine is found unless that comes along in the next six months.

So there has to be another path out of it and, as it stands, the only solution does appear to be to get on with it.

It's not on me or you or anyone else in here to come with those solutions (thank God) but as it stands, there doesn't appear to be a lot of alternatives.

Didn't mean it like that.

it's an example of how the experts can't agree what the best solution is.

The only way to prove how much lockdown has worked is whenever we come out of the restrictions.

I know that's a while off but it's already a failing in my eyes that in the six months since the spread in Europe, other solutions have not been found, or one solution such as track and trace has been developed so poorly.
That's not strictly true. There is general consensus which the WHO have largely been consistent all the way through as have SAGE and general scientific community.

Which is test and trace, good hygiene practice and social distancing.

There may be disagreement about how and when to lockdown, but the underlying message is the same.

Complete lockdown is a failure of the strategy.

Just use your common sense when it comes to the rules.

I will be in a house with seven people at the weekend.

Of the people there three get tested on a regular basis through work, two people tested positive for the virus back in May, so the risk of infection is low.

My Mrs mum and dad are throwing a birthday party for me because I had to cancel all plans for my 30th due to a serious family emergency. Now, do I say cancel it because more than six people will be there, or do we evaluate the risks to ourselves and say it’s ok to go ahead?

Public transport is another one. You’re only supposed to be using it for essential reason but if you have your mask, sanitise your hands and travel when it’s quiet then you’re massively limiting your risk of contracting the virus.

Obviously follow the rules as much as possible but if you have to break them use your common sense.

Hello, is that the police? I'd like to report an 'Animal house' party this weekend. Yes at least seven attending a 30th birthday so expect debauchery. I'd say there is a high probability of there being knives somewhere in the building so bring long truncheons.... :D

What you say is fair enough as long as you minimise the risks as best you can that's all anyone can ask.
