Again, "the facts" as you describe them are a completely false choice. To reopen the economy fully, hell even to ensure we are protected against the next pandemic, we need a comprehensive public health system. Until this government is either removed or shamed into setting up a proper one, reopening fully now is only going to kill thousands (best case) or tens of thousands (likely case) more nans, grandads, mums and dads (with the odd sickly sibling and child thrown in).

If people are happy for that to happen just so we can return to an economy that already had people on the brink, then they should say so.

What next pandemic? It was 60 years since the last one and 50 years from the one before.

We aren't opening up now as we clearly are moving into lockdown measures so the here and now is a moot point, we are still actively working to get numbers down again. Say another 3 months from now should we still be locking everywhere down again? If the average age of death isn't coming down?

At what point do you appreciate who is dying but accept that the other 60 years of age groups are much less at risk still and try and go back to normal? We should he protecting everyone sure but if you are actively shutting the country down for 80 year olds who at normally at risk from most things anyway, then eventually that stops making sense.

If the plan now is to finally get a grip on things then these measures are welcome. To be able to properly manage them then sure , lock us down locally , make us wear masks everywhere in the here and now.

But another 3 months from now. Is the price of destroying businesses / lives / mental health / careers etc a fair trade after 9 months of managing a virus that is still maintaining a much bigger risk to those who are in much higher age brackets?

It's not about sod them, it's about protecting them. The same as we protect them from other risks at that age. We can put all the protective measures in place for them and go back to normal.

Otherwise it's not just people that will be dying in the country.

Yes - their awareness that the presentation of statistical facts by government and medical advisers wouldn't even get a grade E at A level.
