FWIW the main bulk of the BLM protests appear to have had very little impact in terms of new infections, if any.

what annoyed me is people getting on their high horses about it.

I'm fully behind BLM, why wouldn't you be? But protesting - because it's a 'good cause' - in the middle of a pandemic was selfish from anybody that went. Same with title celebrations at Leeds and Anfield etc.

It was a 'good cause' not to have thousands of people lose their jobs. But lockdown still happened.

Isn't this pretty much what they did in Sweden.

Obviously at the time there was a lot of talk about that and their rates shot up but they never shut down their economy.

That being said, they have a smaller population and better healthcare.

Never really read up about Sweden. I guess the issue is that you can't compare countries approach when cultures are so different anyway. Noone else acts like a Brit so whether Sweden had more common sense at play than the 10k anti covid/mask protestors is up for debate for example lol

Same as if a country is more widespread it densely populated. Russia shouldn't have half as much issue as us because they are so spaced out , I don't know the stats for them but I'm guessing have bigger cases in the east than the west.

By a mile, the roughest football league I have played in was in Cheltenham. Behind the facades and that. But loved living there for a few years. Sister still does.

I think the covid fume, post the races, has lessened, but a few months ago, the town was scared and very very angry.

Nightclubs where everybody dance and touch each other are open but people freak out when you go walk without a mask in the park. (even though not illegal, yet) Media calls for this. Because entering parks is free of charge. Same thing with supermarkets, it's basic needs, you don't spend much. If it circulates lots of money, govt may say feck it with the measures. That should be protested.

If masks should be worn in certain places then they should be worn everywhere. Picking and choosing where they are needed is just silly in the bigger picture. If people had to wear them everywhere including pubs , small shops , in places that plenty of people traffic occured then they would serve a much better purpose .

I was very critical of people breaking the rules in March-June, but the virus still spread across Europe like wildfire. The majority of the population has followed the rules for the majority of the time.

We were told in June onwards to eat out, go back to work, get back to normal, help the locals. we've now been told we were misbehaving. I don't know what to think or say anymore. It's not a pandemic, more lilke a social disaster. We can shut literally everything down except public transport, key worker workplaces, schools, univerisities and hospitals, and I bet the number of cases and infections will still go up.

I just can't wait this to be over. What a nightmare. We are all going to die at some point, but if we lose respect to each other, then it's damning for the humanity. If going full tyranny and letting rich enjoy their life without much intervention helps the situation, so be it, I will comply anyway as I always do, but it doesn't solve anything, and creates a terrible precedent -especially for right wing governments- in post covid world.

Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely. Et cetera.

Sainsburys was quiet as anything this afternoon. Empty shelves on the chilled meats, but that was most likely a leccy issue. We all learned, early doors, that the supermarkets are brilliant, as long as folk just buy normally. Reckon they will bring in limits if things tick up. (If they ever went away)
