He wasn't a mate, I'd never spoken to him until after the lockdown ended.

As said, I made my comment on a one to one conversation. If that isn't reflected nationally then that's another matter. I didn't seek to make a general statement.
I’ve had the same experience Dave, a couple of local Restaurants while losing out on drink sales have done well out of takeout food and wine. Not hitting normal levels but not far off it when factoring in staff wages being furloughed. All about local loyalty, supporting our favoured haunts and being responsible.

Biggest winner was the local Paint and wallpaper shop who was inundated with phone calls and he was more than happy to drop the goods off at the door.

Honourable second was the local home furnishings shop who told me the demand for new sofas went through the roof.

The restaurants especially have had a 'good post-lockdown'. The government schemes they enjoyed look to have been the key in stimulating early weekday footfall, which are always an issue with that trade.

Of course, I'm a liar in pointing that out in the first place.

@Brennan @roydo

I'm just glad that you and @peteblue have seen the same trend I've seen.

Imagine using Boris's little lickspittle to back up your posting.

For shame dave, for shame.

My overall point was that restaurants and pubs need to be shut. It was then pointed out that loads will lose their jobs. I then stated that those jobs can and should be saved by government stepping in and the private sector putting in. I was then accused of making up stories about private businesses doing ok post lockdown and couldn't chip in to save their own staff and businesses. But others have stated that their experience is that those businesses have been buoyant.

Post lockdown things have improved, but loads of places are operating at a reduced rate.

Plus you are kinda ignoring the 3 months or so they locked down, sure the Tory rats helped a little, but they are still very much out of pocket.

Another lockdown will be the final nail for thousands of businesses, most of which are stretching to breaking point.

Im not saying we don't need a lockdown, we probably do, but to suggest that everything would be fine if we did is a tad silly and totally ignores the truth.

I didn't say everyone will be fine. There'll be unemployment but the Tories cant afford a complete hollowing out of the sector. They'll step in with a furlough scheme. Already Eat Out MkII is a strong possibility in the event of any serious 'circuit break' being enacted and to get up and running post 'circuit break'.

Bottom line for me though is that we need these places shut right now.

We wouldn't need to shut anything if people just followed the rules.

But its too hard for the West.

From The Guardian website

Nearly 700 new cases of Covid-19 were recorded in Liverpool in the seven days to 17 September, according to new data from Public Health England.

A total of 688 cases were recorded – the equivalent of 138.1 cases per 100,000 people, up from 96.4 per 100,000 in the previous week.

It means Liverpool now has the fifth highest weekly rate in England.
