Better just to believe everything Johnson says Pete. He's got a cracking record in telling the truth.

Be fair Bruce. You know that I have a healthy scepticism of exparts. You also know that from the beginning of this I placed my complete trust into the advice from the CSA and CMO, and I have stuck to it religiously. I am getting a bit fed up however of a never ending line of experts now attempting to undermine everything we had been told. Boris merely repeated the words he was given by the folk from SAGE...

Some discussion about this at the moment. Feeling being that while winter puts more people in doors, if people stay in homes and continue distancing, then it could alleviate some of the impact of usual flu.

The converse of that is the current low uptake of nurse/GP appointment ms and people offsetting one thing because if fear of catching Covid19. So the routine flu jabs may be missed which will also have an impact.
You’d hope that there is a really big “help yourself and the NHS, get your flu jab” messaging campaign planned for early autumn.

But most old people outside of care homes and who feel that way will be self isolating / shielding. They wont come into contact with anyone to contract the flu virus or any other transmissible disease.

Nailed on that Cornwall and Devon will be rammed later in the summer, if lockdown is lifted further.
Hope they come but also maintain social distancing. People have on the whole been very good in obeying the rules down here

When the weather was good a couple of weeks ago we went to beaches maybe 6 times. It was all very orderly and civilised and even the kids were great.

In all those visits I only saw social distancing rules broken once and that was when a group of about 5 youths turned up on their bikes and stopped for an hour for a break. They were clearly not from the same family and weren't observing SD rules with each other. But even then they did respect other people's space

Are you from down that way?

It is a lovely part of the World, we might head down there to do a bit of surfing. Definitely ticks the socially distanced box.

My main concern will be the traffic to be honest.

We're from Liverpool but we moved down here to live last autumn.

The media don't represent what most people think, they're more in line with the hard left.
Ok

So why aren't people more angry about it?

Given this all started with Americans having an issue in America , why aren't more people angry that some people here are potentially the reason why they can't see their loved ones , or that they could potentially kill them? Why aren't more people angry that we could potentially enter a second lockdown if the virus has a second wave as a result?

I can't get my head around the fact people going the beach are labelled as potential murderers yet protestors are justified? The hypocrisy is unreal.

It's the same down here but apart from the odd idiot most people are distancing and respectful of your space.

I'm fine with that but if there's lots of people encroaching on your space I fully get your concerns

This was the scene on entry at my local Aldi earlier.

There was actually a woman outside waving more people in after me believe it or not. One of the shop assistants had the bright idea to position a cart of stuff to be put out immediately to the left of the picture, blocking the aisle so the only option was to go straight ahead.

I think there were 3 people in that whole crowd wearing masks, and the majority had grey hair !

I find the aisles in Aldi and Lidl to be much narrower too, which doesn't help

Yes, a government that never listens to experts merely repeated the words of experts.

Of course, I was being trite. It does seem that things have unravelled since the Cummings affair, and the general goodwill that people had towards the government response to the pandemic has evaporated in the last few weeks, which provides space for more dissenting opinions to emerge. Indeed, it wouldn't surprise me a great deal that when the SAGE minutes are published for this period, that this dissent isn't all too visible.
