Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Ok, I've been a doctor since 2008, worked in several hospitals, and I can TELL you funding has decreased.

How would you know, seriously. Government expenditure is a matter of record. You are a small cog in a very large machine, you may get the odd visibility of one part of the finance within a single hospital, but will not see the whole picture apart from the odd briefing.

The House of Commons keeps a full record, which obviously is agreed by the political parties. Now as you can see, as a percentage of GDP there is a slight reduction, but amongst other things that is determined by the growth and strength of the economy, however the expenditure is real money actually spent, and it has risen and continues to do so. How the NHS decide to spend the money is an NHS issue, but we, the taxpayer and the government, cannot be faulted for the amount we give......

The government guidelines:

Can I leave my home if I'm self - isolating?

If you or someone you live with has symptoms of Coronavirus:

Do not leave your home for any reason.

Then you get this bellend defending Cummings breaking the governments own rules.

I really don't know what is worse. Cummings for flouting the lockdown rules in possibly the worst and most irresponsible manner. Or Goves for defending him.

If Cummings stays in post how can this government ever expect anybody to ever respect anything they ever ask us to do in the future.

Cummings simply has to go today.

The government are now saying that what Cummings did was within the guidelines they set out. It will be interesting how many parents out there will now have coronavirus 'symptoms' so feel that for the welfare of their children they need to drop them off at their parents house. ;)
That's what they want though mate, they want lockdown at an end. This is all grist to the mill if everyione simple says "Ah, bollocks to it. If that lot are doing it, we will too".

Music to the ears of those who never gave up on their herd immunity project.

That defence of him (on the grounds its ok to do that, leading other people to think they can do it) is absolutely going to result in the deaths of people and ruin the lives of the parents and kids, who will have to deal with the knowledge that they are partially responsible for dads / mums / nannas / granddads death.

Its disgusting that they are doing it.

I'm annoyed with the response from the cops as well: if they did speak to him and he wasn't at least given a caution - should be a fine - then what does it say.

They dont care about that. They want industry up and running and they dont care about the death toll. They know that, no matter what, they'll have overseen the worst governance of the crisis in Europe and the 2nd worst in the world. What do they have to lose by increasing the death toll? Nothing.

What has pissed me off mate is the typical Tory defence with Raab coming out and saying "Those now seeking to politicise it should take a long hard look in the mirror." and now Rishi Sunak with this "trying to score political points over it."

The "political point scoring" etc crap will be the official go to line now for Tory MPs.

thats been the line for months - it was used here ages ago, by the usual drones

They didn't speak to him, but did pass on advice. I think they took the right decision, though no doubt they'll end up being blamed now - No.10 is already basically accusing them of lying.

I was going to write a reply that stated how this goes directly against the government's advice to the public, guidelines to the police and the actual legislation.

But what's the point? It's clearly one rule for us (the public) and one rule for them. That's three well-known examples of government advisers failing to adhere.

How we can ask other people to adhere to it?
This government has done loads of things wrong so far in this crisis, but I've always tried to keep perspective and tried to defend them if I thought the criticism was unfair.

But if Cummings stays in office after this? Well how can you defend the indefensible?
