The point was that, because it was the words of locals, @Kurt 's evidence was discounted as highlighting the work of 'mob rule', whereas there was an acceptance by him that the words of 2 MPs were unassailable....which is obviously utter bollocks.

No, mob rule was referring to the Twitter posts, not Kurt's comments. Stick to misrepresenting facts about Covid rather than my posts please.

You think Joe Anderson knows better than the government? Schools for key workers have been carrying on as normal - any teachers dying? Nope. This is just politicking. Which I'm fine with - his choice. But to claim safety of the children in particular is absurd. Children under 10 reportedly are unaffected by the virus and don't pass it on. He's on the wrong side of this argument.
Considering every single report, strategic group this week has been raising serious concerns about the Government's decision, urging caution and now expecting a fairly significant second wave; I'd say he's airing on the side of caution. It's not politicking to follow local health advice if your priority is protect life and health.

Still lots of gaps in the Government advice about EHCP group children for example. And children aren't 'unaffected'. The belief is that they are less susceptible and not responsible for the majority of transmission, but it's still a low percentage, which when applied across the country, given how fine the UK margins are, could be pretty significant. And, much of the science is inconclusive about the matter.

He's PM material, 100%, Labour have a proper chance with him at the helm, first time since Blair.

I know it's still early days but he's already got me feeling confident that he'll turn us into a party that instead of just preaching to it's member we'll become a party that those voters you need to reach out to he'll be able to do that.

Aye, Gladwell's books are indeed interesting (less so his latest one), and Hofstede's work on culture is equally interesting, and has been quite important during this pandemic I think. If you can keep your head above water during all of this, then it's an utterly fascinating time tbh, as it's tipping so many aspects of life upside down, and seems likely to be hugely transformative in terms of whatever world we have on the other side.
You're just showing off now Bruce. Stop it.

Do I think Joe Anderson knows better than the government? Over school closures, yes. Because:

"Data published today by the Office for National Statistics provides information on deaths involving COVID-19 across England and Wales, broken down by occupation.

It shows at least 65 education staff have died with coronavirus, of which 43 were women and 22 were men, as of April 20.

That includes 17 secondary school teachers, seven primary and nursery teachers, two SEND teachers, ten teaching assistants, six school lunchtime supervisors and school crossing patrols and two school secretaries".

Children do pass the virus on as they do pass on colds and other snivels. Anyone involved in an educational establishment has a duty of care to those in that establishment. Joe Anderson is right to not want to open schools up as are the unions who disagree with the government. Leave as it is, is the message from Joe Anderson and the unions.

Edit. Children and related illness due to coronavirus. Early stages.

At least 12 UK children have needed intensive care due to ...

Except that isn't causal to schools. These teachers may have been infected when they went to the supermarket or for any other number of things they may have done.

There is no evidence children pass on the virus. Hence why most other countries governments (not just our own) are sending kids back to school. Joe will back down when he realises the public is furious with him, the teachers and unions. We've seen it all before.

Found the one I was thinking about, it is more recent and linked below but would be interested in the other one you referenced.

I think the bolded bit was the most powerful change in my view as I still doubt it has changed my personal preferences - although I'd under-appreciated the reassurance aspect. But I was doing a hell of a lot of judging (silent, I'm not that much of jerk!) to others that were going through the situation that I won't going forward.

Cant find that article for the life of me mate, its likely buried somewhere here - lave it with me though ill give it a good root when i can, if not i'm sure ill find the reference - i think you would enjoy it.

There is your reposting of trash, and then there is this “no evidence that children will pass on the virus”, which is utter and complete nonsense. There is plenty of evidence kids can catch this, though with lower rates of serious outcomes (but they still happen), and some evidence to show they can transmit it too:

Also well done on claiming “the public are furious” with this, but not 30000 - 50000 dead.

Because he's positioned that way by the media. If Corbyn said exactly the same things there would have been either A/ a policy of ignoring his points, or B/ attacking them as unpatriotic. If Starmer had to put up with that your perception of him would be different.

Starmer is a safe pair opf hands to come off the bench and lead the neo-liberal state. That's why he gets the BS description of 'forensic' and 'detailed and 'calm'.
