Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

There’s a difference between bending the truth and outright lying Kurt. Both the MP for Ynys Mon and Berry have said he’s been on the island for two months and it’s written on public record.

Unless the locals have been watching his property I’m not sure how they can prove otherwise?

Like I say we’ll see because if he has lied and been travelling to and from he’d have been breaking the law and it will come out.

Just very uneasy at the way people are willing to abuse somebody on Twitter based on hearsay. I hope it doesn’t come out that his wife is seriously ill for their sake.

Not sure why someone living in Anglesey and commuting to Darwen and/or London is something people just believe tbh, especially as it isn’t what he said on his declaration at the last election, or has admitted to publicly prior to this point.

Personally I’m in favour of actual evidence before accusing somebody of breaking the law and hounding them on Twitter. Some of the comments directed at him have been quite unsavoury, particularly when his wife has apparently been ill in Gwynedd hospital for some time.

But hey.

It is good news but we still need to know more about what it means with regard to immunity or maybe just I do.

I haven’t read up enough to know what we know or don’t know about titer levels, etc. I think I read something that mentioned immunity for a year or so with coronavirus that cause colds.

Hendrick Streeck the German virologist said at the weekend that other known coronaviruses tend to have immunity for up to 2 years so they are speculating that this is the same but no one knows for sure yet.

There is lots of evidence though; people have been saying he had been seen on the island recently rather than since March and it was not (prior to that announcement) publicly known his home was there, in fact he told everyone it was in his constituency. Also if it has become his main home then it’s a pretty bizarre place for a Lancashire MP to live permanently, the commute is two to three hours to his constituency and three to four to Westminster.

I agree people shouldn’t fly off and accuse people based on solely on twitter, but that isn’t just what this is based on is it?

He's PM material, 100%, Labour have a proper chance with him at the helm, first time since Blair.

The difference between facing Corbyn and Starmer at the dispatch box is absolutely massive and could hardly be greater. The latter calmly and forensically can take you apart, he shows all the skills of a top lawyer while remaining calm, polite but quite ruthless.

People have been saying in this thread that the coronavirus came from a lab.

I don’t class unknown people saying things as evidence. I’ve not seen any media which shows he has been out of Anglesey since the lockdown, which is the key point. Whether or not he was in Lancashire in mid March is irrelevant, as the statement from the Anglesey MP was just that they had been living there since Feb, and not left the area since lockdown.

I’m not sure around what his actual primary residence is, but that really seems irrelevant to me. People were kicking off at the idea that he had breached the lockdown rules, not that he might have a first home in Anglesey. Does anybody really care about that ?

No regrets for sharing fake news? You were rubbing your hands with glee while this poor fellas family were going through hell and having their reputation damaged by false allegations having just recovered from a serious illness. Aren't the left wonderful? Not as bad as Tom Watson yet, but there's hope for you yet.

This is remarkably po-faced.

For a start he has never said his home is on Anglesey; at his election he told his constituents it was in the constituency, in fact prior to this he’s never told anyone that he lives there as far as I can see (as opposed saying he goes on holiday there most years, and saying he is getting rent off three properties on the island).

Secondly yes, people shouldn’t automatically believe what they read on the internet, but that applies to the statement from his MP chum as much as anything else given their serial mendacity, and the implausibility of living there given what and where his job is.

Lockdown has worked best in democracies when trust is high in public institutions. The same finding from a previous study into the Ebola response in Africa http://odube.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Ebola_Sierra_Leone.pdf

Obviously trust isn't the only factor, and they talk about many of the cultural things I've raised previously, but if you want to find something to argue about then yes, I was completely wrong, you were completely right. Hopefully you'll be ably employed moving money around today and won't have the time to have silly arguments on the internet.
It didn't seem argumentative, it seemed pretty reasonable difference of opinion.
