Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Have read a few studies that suggest recovery from virus may not be the end of the story, long term damage to the heart, lung and kidneys can be significant in chronic cases and lead to ongoing and long term chronic intervention.
From the treatment or the virus though. I know people who have had it, tested positive. I also know someone who was ventilated. People not on vents are fine now. Person who was on vent still has health issues. There are doctors out there questioning the vent method to treat corona. Some even say hypoxia might be a symtom in which case what use is a vent. Needs to be more studies into treatments etc and profit from medicine needs to be taken out of the equation, won't hold my breath though.

Could be, was something that came across my twitter feed a weeks or so ago but didn’t notice when it was orignally written. Tbh I’d always been a bit judgmental (why are they still doing chemo, isn’t it kinder to just rest at home?) and opened my eyes.

The article I’m thinking of was published sometime in the middle of the last decade, might have been in the British Journal of Palliative Care, was a real eye opener to me in how I practice, Palliative Care like any other area can become a bit dogmatic or self justifying (the Liverpool Care Pathway a case in point) on an arctypal “Good Death”. I must see can I dig it out tomorrow and share, I think if you havent read it you would enjoy it, very professionally and personally challenging I found and a trigger for reflection.

Essentially there is no right way to die for everyone. In my experience it’s not a static-thing, it’s dynamic and changing, personal choice is key, but listening to that choice without prejudice despite our own beliefs and values, I think is a key fundamental to achieving good person centred palliative care.

Found the one I was thinking about, it is more recent and linked below but would be interested in the other one you referenced.

I think the bolded bit was the most powerful change in my view as I still doubt it has changed my personal preferences - although I'd under-appreciated the reassurance aspect. But I was doing a hell of a lot of judging (silent, I'm not that much of jerk!) to others that were going through the situation that I won't going forward.

Right, so it almost makes it voluntary but also means if anyone flies in for 10 days they obviously cant be willing to isolate or there would be no point coming.
How many people will be coming into the UK though, apart from returning citizens.? People won't be coming on holiday. People coming to work on farms will give the farm as their address and will be working 12 hour days 7 days a week. Other business can be done by web calls. Maybe some asylum seekers who will go into a holding centre anyway. Can you think of anyone else who'd be coming in?

I don't understand the situation with France either, unless it's to do with the lorry drivers arriving and leaving on ferries bringing essential goods. In which case it shows a level of foresight I didn't believe our authorities were capable of lol

Just in case anyone is tempted...

I was just joking LL.

The spread of germs is well documented and understood by the majority of seasoned cruisers. They have hand sanitizers all over the ships and most people use them. The cruise companies are all very sensible too and won't take any risks where coronavirus is concerned. No way the industry can afford another episode like that Princess ship. I think Carnival opening up from August is more in hope than expectation. Plus they'll get bookings made and generate much needed cash flow, and will then endeavour to issue credit notes when the cruise gets cancelled. Most cruisers are loyal to their preferred cruise line, and will understand what they are going though at the moment and will want to help. Plus they will make it worth their while to accept credit notes.

Our November cruise is going to Spain and I just can't see it happening at the moment.

4 huge carnival ships in Southampton docks tied up.
They are laying off staff in their offices here as well.
I'd give them a massive swerve right now with regard to booking anything.
Other opinions are available like.

I’ve seen the headline about estate agents being ‘allowed’ to open up again, and to a certain extent it must be b******s because I moved in to a new place almost two weeks ago, and I know they’ve moved other folk (rented and purchased) in the same period.

And there we have it.

We’ve now gone from “The tories are forcing people back into freedom to their death” to “The Tories are abusing their power with this lockdown”.

Not only are they suppressing deaths on the weekend to make Boris look good, they are also exaggerating cases on a Friday to make the situation look bad.

What a thread.

Can't see what is shocking it's just a normal human response, Johnson has little stock value.
This how people will respond to a known liars, such as Johnson.
People may buy into it ,however, it won't take much to undermine. Its fascinating to read and im seeing more and more and and to be honest I'm enjoying his political demise.
And Its not very often an overt liar gets to such a position of power, it's interesting to see the social dynamic change.

I think I'd have rather seen him flounder in other circumstances, because frankly the worse he does in the present circumstances means many more people die.

Must be comforting for construction and manufacturing workers taking their life in their own hands returning to work today (possibly on public transport) - to see two middle class professional types getting giddy on bbc breakfast at the prospect of 18 holes of golf again on Altrincham golf course this morning.

Are you so dramatic when you go to the supermarket?
