The article I’m thinking of was published sometime in the middle of the last decade, might have been in the British Journal of Palliative Care, was a real eye opener to me in how I practice, Palliative Care like any other area can become a bit dogmatic or self justifying (the Liverpool Care Pathway a case in point) on an arctypal “Good Death”. I must see can I dig it out tomorrow and share, I think if you havent read it you would enjoy it, very professionally and personally challenging I found and a trigger for reflection.
Essentially there is no right way to die for everyone. In my experience it’s not a static-thing, it’s dynamic and changing, personal choice is key, but listening to that choice without prejudice despite our own beliefs and values, I think is a key fundamental to achieving good person centred palliative care.
