We've booked to go to Tenerife with Jet 2, but we've only actually paid £60 each for the deposits with the rest due in a few days time.

It's a decision now whether to just lose the deposits, which I am inclined to do, or pay up the full amount and take the chance or probably getting a refund.
Depends whether you still want to go if you do pay the rest, if it goes ahead you get your holiday if it gets cancelled you'll get your money back.If your not sure you still want to go and you pay the rest and it doesn't get cancelled you'll lose your money if you don't go.
Also keep in mind the 2 week quarantine on return if its implemented.

I've been trading long enough as I have filed self-assessment tax returns every year 16 through to 2019 (obviously not yet 2019-20 which is my first year of full-time self-employment).

But as I had a full-time job on top of my freelancing between 2016 and 2019, less than 50% of my earnings came from self-employment. It has to be 50% or more from self-employment (in all or any of the tax years they are counting - i.e. 16-19) to qualify.

Gotcha. I remember you mentioning that a while back now you remind me..

Sorry if I pushed the point...but as of yet I don’t believe any numbers have proven anything about this virus or any countries response to it. To begin with, no two numbers have been arrived at in exactly the same manner, some numbers are actual lies, some numbers have differing categorisations. As no country has come out of this yet, no one knows if the ‘ lock down everything’ versus the ‘keep everything going’ was the best way as we have yet to see a second or third outbreak. I just think it’s way to early and no one should be drawing too many conclusions from inaccurate, incomplete and non comparable data....
Agree to an extent, you should always review as new data comes in and it will be months before we have a complete picture , but if you lost a loved one in a first wave it is still pretty important that you didn’t get the extra time with them even if they were statistically likely to be lost in a 2nd wave down the line.

”Time is money” is a well known phrase but it is also a grandkid being seen born, laughter shared etc.

Mentally scarred as a child visiting there lol

I spent one night there as one of my old school mates family caravan there.

It was like the Gaza Strip on acid.

I heard it was that bad, that the Welsh police recorded all the crime in there as a separate area, as if they hadn’t the local area would’ve had one the highest crime rates in the country lol

No back patting here. Most people accept the government haven't a clue what they're up to, witness having 16 people on a small stage to tell us to keep 1.5m apart, and all the effective communication has been from the city.

The weird thing about here is that only 3% of confirmed cases are serious (requiring hospital treatment) but if you go to hospital you've a 40% chance of not leaving.

Lockdown has been a shambles. Whilst I agree that solo exercise is ok and even with a "vast partner" (same partner every time), it was open to abuse. The police picked up a group of 6 mountain bikers in a van on sunday. You see families of 5 all over the place and I'm not having it they arent driving to get places. Now you can open a garden centre or a DIY (even that's only to fuel the DIY obsession and keep people at home) but all cultural activities are still banned (even rehearsal in a group the same size as you're now allowed to exercise with)... basically nobody has a clue what is going on.

The advice is still homework if possible but the traditional 250km of traffic jams are back in the mornings now.

Crazy wee country. And being extremely densely populated cant help.

I think - could be wrong - but going by the latest data, this is pretty much the problem in the UK.

The infection rate in the community is right down, hence some tentative attempts over the next few weeks to see what measures can be lifted.

It's the hospital/care home infection rates which are the issue (case in point being my dad's cousin going in with no coronavirus, catching it in there, and being dead within 11 days)

Aye just thought I'd try and you never know.

Bundesliga coming back (we'll see how long it lasts like) means things are at least looking up at the end of May for me in that regard, though still need UC support for the time being

Well you would, wouldnt you?

I will check mine when I can be arsed, which tells you we dont "need" it, but I said earlier, even though I am unable to work atm, and are ok cash wise, might not be in 6 months time.

So I will take the cash, stash it away, and once some sort of normal resumes, both personally and UK wise, will decide what to do with it. My (current) charitable attitude will be to keep what the tax will be, and lob the rest at a returning small shop or buy a load of stuff for the binmen.

You can certainly get the tour operator to move your holiday to 2021 at no charge.
I thought that was up till end july ill check hopefully your right see what they say .Was going to a wedding and as far as i know wedding not been cancelled yet. Wedding last week in August in santorini whats the chances.
