What would you do Dave. Close everywhere down then have no money to pay for anything ?, close all the schools forcing numerous nurses and key workers to stay at home to look after them or put them with grandparents who will then pick up any germs going. Doing something is infinitely easier than doing the right thing. Boris is being advised what to do, he is not stupid, he will do as advised. If you know a better way please let us know.....

Just on the subject of South Korea and China 'winning' the battle. Do we all understand that whatever the daily numbers this is not going away? China can put 56 million people under quarantine, South Korea can test 200k people and both those measures can and have helped, but when those conditions are lifted there will be more outbreaks, because it's rapidly becoming endemic. Angela Merkel has just said she expects 70% of the populace to get this.

There's likely little that any one political leader in any one country could do to stop this. If we shut everything down now or if we never shut anything down, the likelihood is that 70% of us will get it too.

There's two things the govt can do, try and delay and smooth out the curve so the NHS isn't completely overwhelmed and try to keep the most vulnerable free from it, which will entail changes to their lives which for most people are simply unsustainable.

Delay is the best we can hope for whilst, we have to hope that everything possible is going on beneath the surface to give the health service the resources they're going to need once this really takes hold.

Also I think cultural changes will have to take place. This focus on hygeine. Making it unacceptable to cough and sneeze in public without using a tissue or one's arm. Not showing up for work if you've clearly got a cold and not getting barracked from your boss if you do. More working from home. More information on how to build a healthy immune system, how to eat well, improve your lifestyle.

Get the message out that now would be a really good time to quit smoking, reduce your vaping habit, cut down on alcohol, make better food choices, get some exercise etc. Anything to make people better capable of fighting this off when it comes, then those people can help the others when they get it and so on.

Particularly worried about friends in the health service. Medical workers in China were vulnerable to this virus due to the amount of exposure, shortage of equipment and fatigue.

or people are looking at countries who have experience in facing epidemics recently (china, Singapore etc) from SARS.. and judging our response against that.

2 no mark advisers who came up with a fancy graph on power point with absolutely no historical basis against the countries above who seem to have sorted themselves out

China has not sorted itself out. China caused all of this and suppressed it for too long, then they built crap hospitals, ring fenced whole cities and are able to say it’s an Italian disease. Once they allow people to move again it will pop up once more, they will clamp down on news, arrest any whistleblowers and hope it goes away....I prefer our two ‘no mark’ advisors in this case.....but we shall see......

I'm in Valencia region of Spain and they've closed all the schools and parks here and public buildings until further notice. So effectively can't go anywhere except supermarket. They've advised to stay at home. Crazy

This really. The top scientific people of the U.K. are advising the Government what to do and they are apparently following advice. Meanwhile all the sad lefties are trying to blame Boris, the Tories or whatever, yet defending the country that started the bleeding virus in the first place. The U.K. faces a mega health problem and what it does not need is ideological warfare at this particular moment in time. Let’s just get through it then throw your stones.....

Were the government listening then? Criticism shouldn't disappear when it's point is sharpest and most likely to leave a mark.

But the countries that are closing schools are sorting this out with meal tickets I think or shop vouchers for food.

No idea tbh Bruce, and I doubt anyone else does really. Young children tend not to suffer too much from Coronavirus apparently, but obviously can spread it. Personally I would close down secondary school, where the kids are old enough not to need parents at home and keep junior/infants in school where parents otherwise would have to stop work.....

As news hits of CEO's of big companies going into self isolation it'll be interesting to see whether they'll afford their lower ranking employees, especially public facing ones, time off work without penalty.
