I was surprised, but there is a grading system apparently, and whilst elderly and diabetic, other than that they are fighting fit. Relatively.
Its quite obvious that if they got it, most likely they would be toast with or without diabetes, and the only person they could get it from is me. Their mind set is the council would be wasting resources on them, and they, the council, should make sure really vulnerable folk are taken care of.
I totally understood their perspective and their stoic mentality is quite commendable, but I would the grading system excuse with a pinch (handful) of salt.
My elderly mother has chronic kidney disease (stage four) and therefore should be labelled as at risk, yet she received no letter or support from her doctor.
Like your parents, she is quite stoic and said, "Well it is what it is" but I did some enquiring and apparently the letter/support system has been very inconsistent.
Her sister (my Aunt) has motor-neuron disease and similarly didn't receive a letter, so I rang up and asked why and was promised they'd be sent etc. Still none.
Anyway, I turned up with my professional hat on and asked to speak to the Doctor and miraculously they were emailed out the same day: clerical error apparently.
Back to the point, my whole issue was that if they needed care (oxygen at home, ambulance etc.) then they should receive at as a priority due to her condition.
Without the doctors actually acknowledging that they were at risk, we couldn't be assured that any of the above would be the case.
I wonder how many other people, who are genuinely at risk, haven't received the support that they need because of the clerical failings that are taking place.
