Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Weirdly, we have 2 charities having some sort of fight with eachother down here.
We give food to a designated charity everyday, serious amounts too.
Last week the other charity showed up, flashed her charity ID and the woman had it all away.
The charity it was meant for showed up an hour later to collect nothing !
Absolutely crackers.
Maybe rotten thieves I wonder?

I went for a walk by us, there is a kids play area en route that is fenced in with railings round it with a big sign saying "Closed due to Covid-19" yet there were parents in there with their kids. On the way back there was a fella there passing his kid over the railings to another fella before jumping over the railings himself.
Now he should get a penalty ticket for that all day long.
Ridiculous.

When I did voluntary work in Alder Hey, the various kids charities were always scrapping over who got the best spot to put out their stalls ( by the main entrance ).

It was quite unsavoury lol

Get right onto their Doctor because I can assure you, as per the legislation, they're at risk because diabetes is part of the underlying medical conditions.

They may not be in need of much support, but the Doctor should be aware as it will ensure that if support is needed (medical, social etc.) they'll get it as a priority.

Right from the legislation:

I was surprised, but there is a grading system apparently, and whilst elderly and diabetic, other than that they are fighting fit. Relatively.

Its quite obvious that if they got it, most likely they would be toast with or without diabetes, and the only person they could get it from is me. Their mind set is the council would be wasting resources on them, and they, the council, should make sure really vulnerable folk are taken care of.

I totally understood their perspective and their stoic mentality is quite commendable, but I would the grading system excuse with a pinch (handful) of salt.

My elderly mother has chronic kidney disease (stage four) and therefore should be labelled as at risk, yet she received no letter or support from her doctor.

Like your parents, she is quite stoic and said, "Well it is what it is" but I did some enquiring and apparently the letter/support system has been very inconsistent.

Her sister (my Aunt) has motor-neuron disease and similarly didn't receive a letter, so I rang up and asked why and was promised they'd be sent etc. Still none.

Anyway, I turned up with my professional hat on and asked to speak to the Doctor and miraculously they were emailed out the same day: clerical error apparently.

Back to the point, my whole issue was that if they needed care (oxygen at home, ambulance etc.) then they should receive at as a priority due to her condition.

Without the doctors actually acknowledging that they were at risk, we couldn't be assured that any of the above would be the case.

I wonder how many other people, who are genuinely at risk, haven't received the support that they need because of the clerical failings that are taking place.

My office overlooks the high street and more and more people are about every day, to the point that you'd struggle to believe there were any restrictions in the last few days. I drove past a park on the way home yesterday and the car park was rammed and there were a group of blokes having a kick around, loads walking their dogs and kids playing in the park.

I've seen community support officers approach groups of people in town and have a laugh and a joke and then just leave them sat there enjoying the sun rather than move them on. I appreciate it's a fine balance but there's plenty of people clearly taking the piss still, they'll probably be the same people whining about a lockdown extension without an ounce of self awareness.

"My office" yeah right, more like 'perv pad' lol

Will explore that tomorrow. Cheers mate.

Be interesting to see who was asked the question - if it was those aged 50+ who are retired then you can see why but I doubt most working aged self employed that are likely not as financially secure and have mortgages/rent to pay with little savings feel that way.

I also think alot of lazy types are more than happy to be furloughed at 80% as some folk are treating lockdown as a summer holiday. Once Boris turns off the taps see how long they are happy out of work for then when they are getting sod all every month!
Agree with that apart from 50+ and retired chance would be a fine thing.

There are more TV stations and programmes than GMB....I’ve no idea why anyone would tolerate being treated the way Morgan goes about his business. His bosses love him tearing people to bits, we’ll let’s see how they love being ignored and avoided......
Matters not what you think, not many early morning TV have those viewership numbers and reach. Its good news that the kind of Tory blah blah has less reach.

I’m not sure the statistics reflect the suggestions in this thread that a lot more people are gathering.

As long as the majority of people are being sensible we will be fine.

Isn't there usually a lag/delay from initial infection to when the person will initially show symptoms and hospitalisation is even further down the line if that occurs?

If there is to be a rise, I suspect (not a doctor) that it would come in a week or two, which is what my Doctor friend said the NHS have been preparing for.
