I've had to ration my visits to social media and watching news because it makes me so angry and sad. Today ( because I don't work on Wednesdays and I was a bit bored) I have engaged with some right wing acolytes who seem to only care about the economy. I have been called a loony leftie for daring to suggest that people's lives are more important than money. Since when did caring about the human race turn you into a nutcase. I despair. I'm also really annoyed that furloughed workers have been cast as the new benefit scroungers. Apparently they are all enjoying a jolly at the Govt's expense. again tirades of abuse when I said my currently furloughed husband is 60 in November, has worked since he was 16 with 2 brief periods of unemployment and is more than entitled to the £317 a week he is currently getting paid.

I despair. We need a revolution. A peaceful Ghandi/Martin Luther King one after this. (I hate violence) Mass disobedience to make a better fairer society for all of us.

Hear hear

Nail...on ...head ! I've had to do the same re social media....not good for my blood pressure. Can I ask if you are involved with PCS union?

The Swedes for me are gambling on the end game. They know that their deaths in the first wave are going to be significantly higher than their neighbours but they are hoping that come the second/third/fourth wave because of herd immunity they will see a lot less deaths overall.
Only time will tell if they have got it right, their Prime Minister will go down in history as the worst or the best they have ever had.
From what I can tell, herd immunity is similar to any herd situation, it doesn't survive because it's stronger as a herd, it survives because when there is a predator, the slow/weak members get left behind and the predator feeds on them.
Likewise any herd immunity comes in the second wave of the disease when all the weak are dead from the first wave.
The human body doesn't just create immunity because lots of people are ill, it just looks like immunity because those that would normally die from the disease already did it, so it appears the herd seems to have cured itself.

Either that or the proper idea is that I don't need a vaccine because the rest of the herd is vaccinated... There is no vaccine so it cannot be that that people talk about.

I don't really get it as a valid argument tbh.

I am not saying it is right mate I just think that's the stance they are taking. The fact is the lockdown was never going to stop the virus we will all get it eventually we just have to hope that when we do the NHS have got PPE and equipment to give us a fighting chance.

Don't say that you will have @BruceWayne measuring the situation up :D
You are sadly judging the world from your view.

You arent working, you are staying at home and you are observing the lockdown, so why would you see all the people flouting it?

On my daily walk I see so many people taking the piss, my neighbours seem to have had a party every single day, the parks are rammed and all the little scallys are roaming the streets in packs of 5.

I mean with respect, it aint all unicorns and pixies in the hood.

Main offenders by us our teenagers, it`s back to normal for them.

Four or five on mountain bikes, leaving behind a Skunk vapour trail as they cycle pass you lol

What?

Herd immunity in the medical sense means that enough people are immune to the disease such that those that are not immune are unlikely to come in contact with an infectious person and thus stay safe. You want to create a protective buffer around the vulnerable.

The point was whether you could trust the UK Government suggestion about Brexit preparedness and timeline, when measured against the current response to Covid-19?

What do you think...
I think you still like the EU compare what they have done on Covid 19 - Germany have really shared their testing gear plus PPE around .....you are unfortunately still in love with them .......
I am not happy with the way this government have handled Covid 19 but if you sold your family silver off 20 years ago no production lines or materials not even to make a basic face mask in their millions after relying ironically on cheap Chinease Shyte.....now at great expense - I hope lessons will be learnt after this as an independent country we will have to manufacture again .......on most things ......
It's not looking great ATM.....The EU would solve nothing as their depression in Euro land will be just as bad.....

It's a big part however....

A new analysis found that the virus can remain viable in the air for up to 3 hours, on copper for up to 4 hours, on cardboard up to 24 hours and on plastic and stainless steel up to 72 hours.

This means that if you adhere to the rules but go out for a walk or a jog, touch a gate or turnstile or even just go onto the same path in your garden as the food delivery driver walks up you can potentially pass it on without going anywhere near anyone, weeks before you even know you have it.
I've read and heard a few things from doctors on this and they all seem to be saying that the risk of contracting it like that is low.

A. As I've explained to you on many occasions I'm not a lover of the EU. But you keep ploughing that furrow.

B. The selling of manufacturing 20 years ago was undertaken under the same principles as the current Government adhere to. They knew we couldn't manufacture quickly enough, so as such should've sourced and procured en masse as they suggested they would. They told the UK public they were well prepared when costly they werent.

C. Who are you expecting Germany to share their testing equipment with?

D. Heaping man made economic hardship on top of hardship caused by a pandemic is lunacy. If you think the Government were demonstrably poorly prepared for something they had time to resolve, why would you take their word that they are and have been well prepared in the past for Brexit and will be in the future. Wouldn't the same Government that has adopted a laissez faire approach to managing a global pandemic do the same during extremely complex trade negotiations? I reckon yes.
