A. As I've explained to you on many occasions I'm not a lover of the EU. But you keep ploughing that furrow.

B. The selling of manufacturing 20 years ago was undertaken under the same principles as the current Government adhere to. They knew we couldn't manufacture quickly enough, so as such should've sourced and procured en masse as they suggested they would. They told the UK public they were well prepared when costly they werent.

C. Who are you expecting Germany to share their testing equipment with?

D. Heaping man made economic hardship on top of hardship caused by a pandemic is lunacy. If you think the Government were demonstrably poorly prepared for something they had time to resolve, why would you take their word that they are and have been well prepared in the past for Brexit and will be in the future. Wouldn't the same Government that has adopted a laissez faire approach to managing a global pandemic do the same during extremely complex trade negotiations? I reckon yes.
No mention of what the EU have done so far over Covid 19 .......or why the chief medical officer walked out........

Just more waffle, with no answers- please use the polictical thread......

The Swedes for me are gambling on the end game. They know that their deaths in the first wave are going to be significantly higher than their neighbours but they are hoping that come the second/third/fourth wave because of herd immunity they will see a lot less deaths overall.
Only time will tell if they have got it right, their Prime Minister will go down in history as the worst or the best they have ever had.

But their economy will survive either way.....

Not disputing that at all......I have friends and relatives who are worried about their livelihoods....its about what sort of economy do we want or need after this horrible time...

I would like to see the taxation and benefits changed and everyone given a basic income indexed to inflation. It is not right that some can lose everything because of an event such as this. Everyone needs security of income and a guaranteed safety net. But while we have footballers continuing to pick up millions and not even playing, it shows that our values are wrong and totally out of kilter. I believe in people getting paid what they are worth, but the gap is now obscene and how can you now value a nurse versus a footballer, you can’t. I hope that society will change as a result of this virus, but I fear we will quickly slip back into idolising footballers, celebrities and the newest snouts in the trough, influencers.....we’re screwed....

What I dont get is we've been on lockdown for over 6 weeks so how are hundreds still being infected and dying every day still?

If its contamination on stuff like people touching items in the supermarkets etc. Then little we can do to stop that sadly.

It's the thing that's keeping me awake at night

How the hell are people actually still getting it?!

I've had to ration my visits to social media and watching news because it makes me so angry and sad. Today ( because I don't work on Wednesdays and I was a bit bored) I have engaged with some right wing acolytes who seem to only care about the economy. I have been called a loony leftie for daring to suggest that people's lives are more important than money. Since when did caring about the human race turn you into a nutcase. I despair. I'm also really annoyed that furloughed workers have been cast as the new benefit scroungers. Apparently they are all enjoying a jolly at the Govt's expense. again tirades of abuse when I said my currently furloughed husband is 60 in November, has worked since he was 16 with 2 brief periods of unemployment and is more than entitled to the £317 a week he is currently getting paid.

I despair. We need a revolution. A peaceful Ghandi/Martin Luther King one after this. (I hate violence) Mass disobedience to make a better fairer society for all of us.
Great post.

The gloves will come off. I'm pretty sure there's a determination now with the Tories to cast caution to the wind; they cant gain politically from their approach medically to the crisis and they'll go all out to sell a restart of the economy as the only way to "avoid greater damage to the nation". They'll starve people out and into work, and the casualty figures in terms of virus deaths that will result will be accepted.

This really is capitalism red in tooth and claw now.
