Seemed like Labour really put the Tories under pressure in the commons today, very tacit admissions of dropping the ball in a few settings by the Tories particularly on PPE and Care homes, its good to see actually.

Part of acknowledging that mistakes have been, is beginning to rectifying those & solve problems and its good to see the UK Government moving that way today.

Now flatten that curve FFS.

Worryingly, I wouldn't be thinking of lifting restrictions on Monday mind.
It looked choreographed to me.

We saw in the last two days the health experts at SAGE with their Mea Culpa, now we see Johnson with some limited hand wringing. On reflection, there's nowhere for them to go on this, because the stats are catastrophically bad. They know it too.

I want to see Labour come out and pan any loosening of the lockdown that doesnb't kick it down the road. The line should be that, because of Tory incompetence, we have to be looking at weeks down the line before even a first stage of reopening the economy/society. The UK is not like anywhere else that's looking to come out of lockdown. The LP should also make it plain that if the Tories do open up from next week and there occurs any upward trend in cases, they'll be called to account for it.

The problem I can see , and have heard of is the protective clothing used in general circumstances not front line is the exposure of bare skin on the arms - any virus or chemical can be absorbed via bare skin as you skin is porous it breathes a face mask and a mouth mask is fine, but the apron leaves the nurses or Doctors arms bare skin exposed.....
they can transmit iot from patient to patient - one nurse had her Covid 19 test with no symptoms just felt tied down to shift work her result came back positive.......told to isolate 14 days no symptoms .....

but what I mean is the BAME community, I’m unsure if that’s the correct terminology for this stats , have a higher rate of diabetes so I mean that’s something that Potentially effects a community greater due to ethnicity. Also sickle cell is a disease which effects the BAME community so in answer to your initial question yes .

Hmmm I dont know mate - I mean you could argue that members of the BAME community suffer health conditions more commonly that puts them more at risk but for me I dont think the virus itself is more potent in any specific race or community.

I imagine if a 70 year old white person with diabetes gets COVID-19 their chances are just as low as a 70 year old black person with diabetes.

Its perplexed me for weeks that.

Care homes I get. If it gets in, from a resident, care worker, delivery bloke, it will spread.

Social distancing is now part of life, so unless it doesnt work, its not from that.

Non Covid hospital admissions, or patients already there are obviously at higher risk to get it in hospital, so thats a few. Maybe more than a few, who knows?

All I can come up with is there must be pockets of very localised infections where it takes a hold and takes the piss. Care homes esq if you like.

Like my own situation is I am caring for Mrs R, (high risk if she gets it), and watching out for my parents, mid 80s. Again, high risk if they get it. All 3 will only get it from me, so I have been very diligent and done what we have been told to do.

And they, all vulnerable, havnt got it. Its just plain weird that so many still are.
There's something very weird going on with the infection figures. Going through the file on this page - https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/#local-authorities Local authorities don't appear to have a uniform method of reporting in the figures, so for example over the past 3 days Manchester have reported in everyday, even on days where there has been no increase. Luton on the other hand only reported in on one of the days. Whether that results in weird spikes I don't know.

How have we Passed 30,000 again today, when it was up to 32,000+ the other day? are we only counting people who die in hospitals or have thousands risen from the dead?

New data released by the State of New Jersey suggests the true toll of COVID-19 may be much greater than previously thought. Vital statistics released by the state show the total number of deaths by any cause between March and April rose from 12,567 last year to 23,070 this year. The 10,503 additional deaths recorded this year represent an 83% increase over 2019. “This is just not something we have seen in American mortality data in a long time. It’s astonishing,” said Andrew Noymer, an epidemiologist at the University of California, Irvine. “This is unlike anything I have ever seen in the United States, short of the 1918 influenza pandemic.”

The 10,503 additional deaths recorded this year are 45% higher than the 7,228 coronavirus deaths the state officially recorded between March and April, which epidemiologists such as Noymer say is a sign that New Jersey is likely undercounting the true death toll from the pandemic. Death trend lines tend to be very consistent year-to-year. Between 2016 and 2019, New Jersey never saw more than 13,047 deaths from all causes across March and April. That figure skyrocketed to more than 23,000 deaths this year. “In New Jersey, the vast majority of deaths are directly related to COVID, in my opinion,” he said. “It’s a huge increase. It’s more than we’ve seen in any regular flu season, even the swine flu pandemic. It’s very significant.”
People seem to be forgetting that the lockdowns are killing people also. I would be curious to see stats of cause of death also since lockdown. Obv corona would be the main percentage but I'm sure a good amount are due to other factors caused by lockdown also. They're basically saying any excess compared to previous years is coronavirus, completely ignoring the toll lockdown is having on peoples lives also. Just because myself, you and others on here are lucky enough to be safe and comfortable in lockdown doesn't mean that others are, some aren't so lucky.

So we've gone over 30k deaths today.

Is the lockdown announcement due tomorrow ?
Huge decisions coming up and I can see them ballsing it up.
It's a great idea isn't it? Massive death rate from the virus, but let's unlock the clampdown.

They just cant make a correct decision because they're governed by financial considerations. "We cant afford it. They have to get back in work" - John Redwood.

Utter 'kin balloon.

again mate I think we’re talking at cross purposes .

you asked was there a disease that effected different ethnic communities differently . I said I think diabetes effects the BAME community worse than the white community . Ignoring covid , I might be wrong but I’m sure the stats back that up .

regardless of that ignore diabetes look at sickle cell and how it effects the BAME community and there is a similar disease to that that predominantly effects those of Mediterranean and I think another community . So like I say yeah there are deffo diseases that effect different ethnicities to a greater or lesser extent .

People are being told to go back to work. There are rumours that furlough pay will be reduce to 60% to encourage people to return to work. If you start telling people that it's OK to go to work, possibly on public transport every day, and you will be safe then the logical extension of that will be - well if I can go to work, I can go and sit in the park, I can go and visit my family. Lockdown should have been earlier and tougher.

This has been an epic failure by Government. They had warning, they saw what had happened in Italy and Spain and they did nothing. They let the Spanish fans come, they let Cheltenham go ahead, they let Crufts go ahead (120,000 visitors and 18,000 trade and competitors) all in early March. Had we been the first in Europe to experience the virus I might have forgiven them. But they saw what was happening in other countries and failed to act.

They dont give a flying one. They've butchered between 30,000 and 50,000 people and they're prepared to see more die if it means the economy is restarted and debt capped.

...and I get stick from Thatcher's Kinder on here for the correct usage of the word Murderers.
