As this thing has developed, and social distancing has become the norm, I cant really get why queuing to get in a bookshop or clothes shop is more dangerous than a supermarket.

If the owners dont want to, then fine. But I reckon the vast majority of folk would still observe the discipline.

Pubs and restaurants different beer mind. Although I could see a restaurant plan being easier.

I'm stating the obvious, but there's physically less space in a smaller shop, and I doubt small retail units could man a door all day in the way a supermarket can enforcing a queuing system. In urban centres those shops would be over run.
In Ireland so far most shops that are opening are doing a 1 in 1 out policy
Most people are happy to observe it
If you break the rule the assistant will ask you to leave
It seems to be working fine so far

Manning the doors, queue in the car park etc is an expensive business as well.
I can already hear money being mentioned more and more.
Huge sales planned next week to clear stock that would have been sold by now.

The fall out from this for the supermarkets over the next few weeks will be significant.
The .com / home shopping doesent actually make much profit even though it takes loads of money.
The Irish Government have warned retailers not to do this when they reopen as it will attract large crowds and make social distancing impossible

He should have a GOT celebration night in there, the night all this is over and the pubs re open.

There's going to be one of those revolving door things isn't there? We'll come in and Pete will pull a pump and all of his secret important meeting type patrons will all be safely removed to a bunker somewhere, Pete's finger slowly caressing the trigger of the Elizabethan cannon he has beneath the bar, just in case.

The following small shops are open where I live :

Deli
Newsagent x 2
Chippy
Indian Takeaway x 4
Decorating shop
Butcher
Waterfields
Cafe - take away only
Specialist Cake shop

All of them allow no more than people in at a time. Big signs on doors.

Been like this for weeks and is working perfectly.

Mate of mine went for a takeaway before from a restaurant and inside basically everyone who was picking one up were told to sit on their own table which were dotted around the room with ones close enough by not in use.

Not ideal but certainly sounds an idea for when restaurants open up - providing employees are wearing gloves and masks I cant see why that wouldnt work with reduced bookings/tables in use.
It would work but restaurants will not make a profit on half full restaurants

I've got a question for you Mr Raab , where's fat bloke?

I can't say for sure, but I'm going to hazard a guess that he's having a whale of a time frequenting all the establishments open near @COYBL25

Was reading an article on Taiwan will try to dig it out as, unlike S Korea, they hadn’t used phone apps much for tracking except to monitor those who should be in quarantine not leaving home. All their tracing of contacts was irrc of the phone/shoe leather kind.
TBH until a few days ago I honestly thought that's how our TTI would be carried out. The thought of using apps didn't even enter my mind until I saw a news programme on how South Korea did it.

But my view is that anything that helps us start to come out of lockdown whilst keeping further loss of life to a minimum, is something we really need to do. Whether that be use of phone apps, wearing face masks, continued social distancing, continued banning of large gatherings etc.
