As this thing has developed, and social distancing has become the norm, I cant really get why queuing to get in a bookshop or clothes shop is more dangerous than a supermarket.

If the owners dont want to, then fine. But I reckon the vast majority of folk would still observe the discipline.

Pubs and restaurants different beer mind. Although I could see a restaurant plan being easier.
I'm stating the obvious, but there's physically less space in a smaller shop, and I doubt small retail units could man a door all day in the way a supermarket can enforcing a queuing system. In urban centres those shops would be over run.

If you have self isolated for 14 days - can you be around people again or is there a chance you could still infect someone?

Found this an interesting study on transmission from Taiwan who appear to have handled their outbreak well, their quarantine period is 14 days too.
Our analysis of close contacts to confirmed COVID-19 cases revealed a relatively short infectious period of COVID-19 and a higher transmission risk around the time of symptom onset of the index case, followed by a lower transmission risk at the later stage of disease. The observed decreasing transmission risk over time for COVID-19 was in striking contrast to the transmission pattern of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), in which the transmission risk remained low until after day 5 of symptom onset in the index cases.20 Our study and the study by Nishiura et al4 revealed a short serial interval of COVID-19, with a median of 4 to 5 days. In contrast, the mean serial interval of SARS was estimated to be 8.4 days in Singapore.20 The present contact tracing analysis suggested that the shorter serial interval of COVID-19 was due to the combination of early-stage transmission and a short period of infectiousness.

The observed pattern of the secondary clinical attack rate over time was also consistent with the quantitative data of the SARS-CoV-2 viral shedding in upper respiratory specimens, which has been found in China to be a high viral load around the time of symptom onset, followed by a gradual decrease in viral shedding to a low level after 10 days.5 The viral load was similar among asymptomatic, minimally symptomatic, and symptomatic patients. Another virological study in patients with COVID-19 in Germany also found no viable isolates of the virus after the first week of symptoms.21 Our findings agree with the virological data on high transmissibility of COVID-19 in the first week after the onset of symptoms and decreased risk afterwards.21 We also documented and quantified the transmission potential of COVID-19 in a subgroup of contacts whose exposure occurred exclusively during the presymptomatic period of the index case. Our analysis revealed a similar clinical attack rate between the contacts who only had presymptomatic exposure and those who had postsymptomatic exposure.

I've just looked at the figures in Poland and Hungary. Their government's seem to have done tremendously well and are a great example of what needs to be done.

Will you be injecting bleach later then?

Just had a question on tv about wene grandparents can see grandchildren didnt really here the answer .But my thinking on it is now is probably the best time to see them while averyone is staying home as much as possible. Because when the kids go back to school its going to be alot worse so if we can't see them now there's no chance when they're at school.

That's true but any grandparent doing that is taking their own chances due to the amount of asymptomatic cases.

We have a town centre shop. About 2000sq ft. We get about 5 or 6 customers per day, rarely two at once. They buy or drop work off for us to do and two weeks later they turn up to pick it up and pay. The Product could not really be deemed essential, it is for some but not for most. I imagine we won’t be allowed to open for a while. I do agree though that high shopper number premises may struggle, but then again I saw a small butchers in the town, with people in a queue outside nicely spaced, so who knows.....People seem to be behaving themselves.....

Manning the doors, queue in the car park etc is an expensive business as well.
I can already hear money being mentioned more and more.
Huge sales planned next week to clear stock that would have been sold by now.

The fall out from this for the supermarkets over the next few weeks will be significant.
The .com / home shopping doesent actually make much profit even though it takes loads of money.

Are you aware that the Polish government is trying to hold a general election amidst a lockdown (when no other party is capable of campaigning), which is just blatant anti-democratic election rigging.

If any UK Govt tried to that they’d rightly be hauled over the coals.

Its easy to look at countries with lower infection rates and wrongly hold their Govts up as great examples to the rest of the world.

...which is why it's essential to at least get these divvies wearing face masks.

Big Afro-Caribbean community where I live, and it's noticeable that while mask wearing seems hugely popular, so too does gathering in large groups (especially among men). Not saying they gather due to being emboldened by the masks, the gatherings would be common anyway, but they don't seem to have got the notion of social distancing.
