I expect that this will be the theme throughout the world :(

Ultimately, what's the point in living when you can't afford to as you've lost your job and the economy is down the pan meaning employment is nigh on impossible.
Its when you cant afford a transgender hooker you will need to worry lol

In fairness they are all true. And if you go back 4 weeks there were real fears that our hospitals would be completely overrun. So they are all positives.

What was actually poor about his speech was what was NOT included in it. The death rates, the continued high new infection rate, the outbreak in our nursing and care homes, the struggle to increase the daily testing, the continued struggle to provide adequate PPE, amongst others. Whilst I understand his wish to keep his first speech back a positive one, all these issues need discussing in an open and transparent manner if he wants to get the country more supportive.
Numbers are dropping though mate. Perhaps they don't want to mention them until they are significantly lowering?

Seems like countries that locked down relatively early (i.e. with few recorded cases) are doing well. I might be mistaken there.

This is the thing, we probably didn't even need to fully lockdown at that point (might have gotten away with a partial lockdown during the whole crisis to date). The government could have managed this situation by banning all large gatherings back in Feb, shutting pubs in late Feb/March and all of this coinciding with regular early testing and common sense social distancing. Everyone that could have worked from home should have been made to do so Feb/March. I work in a Council and those in high positions we're reluctant to force us to work from home until the Government gave the go ahead which was mid/late march. All easy steps that could have been taken whilst keeping some businesses open, childcare and primary schools open and construction sites going (relative normality). In the end we end up with a completely trashed economy and one of the worst death totals/rates in the developed word. The governments miss management of this has been dreadful.

Boris said " If this virus was a physical assailant, and unexpected and invisible mugger - which I can tell you from personal experience it is - then this is the moment when we have begun together to wrestle it to the floor"

"And so it follows that this is the moment of opportunity, this is the moment when we can press home advantage"
When you spend all of your public life acting like an oafish buffoon it's very hard to take anything he say's seriously during a crisis like this. I understand his desire to bring an element of positivity to proceedings, but given the current seriousness of the virus here in the UK that's akin to Canute and his 'kin tide.

He just doesn't pull off the inspirational leader stuff, and whatever he say's he's going to get lambasted. I'll be satisfied if he just started being open and transparent.

I can understand trying to keep the speech a positive one mate, but rather than sound bytes, the stiff upper lip stuff, and the hero we need is back, it should have been more in depth about the stuff you mentioned. Now, there will have been people standing up and applauding furiously after Boris' speech, but it just left me deflated, not hopeful.

All countries have illegal immigration so your numbers are not accurate in yopur first post- don't blame Brexit you touchy thing.....
where do I mention that ....?
FGS its a pandemic that kills people.....
Joey illegal immigration will not skew the numbers massively
Do you honestly think there are millions of illegals in Britain
