You're right. People should profit off my free labour. Whatever would we do without an inexhaustible supply of strawberries and raspberries on our supermarket shelves? To the fields!
It’s going to need a collective effort to keep the country fed, wasted crops this year will have a huge knock on effect over the next few years including massive price hikes due to mass shortages of basic foods....all because joe public won’t give up a few hours a week to help out as they are not benefiting in the short term.

How many?

Quite a few like (or any combination of having moved address or practice and never updated their details).

Its not perfect but you should atleast be able to get a good idea of the true infection rate in every Local Authority if they did blood testing at local GP's of a high number of people - get people in to analyse the results rather than waiting months for an antibody home testing kit that may be inaccurate and lead us down a blind alley.

The thing I wonder about regards testing everyone, is someone could test negative but become infected the next day.

That would be very noble if it was crops that actually kept the country fed, like corn, wheat and potatoes (which don’t require the same labour intensive methods) rather than soft fruits which are by and large a luxury.

Oh well..... don’t moan to me when you can’t have fresh fruit and veg at your fingertips.

By the way DWP would stop your benefits for turning down this picking job, you would be expected to travel up to 2 hrs for minimum wage.

However, have been informed that some people are being asked to sign a change of job contract when they enter furlough, basically, no other work.

Many of these picking jobs require you to live on site, it helps these farms, manage their rent and wage.

Not that I blame you...

So, out of the wages you earn you also have to pay rent to the farm owner for the accommodation he provides?

My local authority has been encouraging home working for a while... As they downsized office space and can't fit everyone in now. However, very easy to check if you are actually doing work, by various ways... And my internet at home is so much better than works, I'm logged on in secs, at work would take 15 mins...

My missus is a director in local government and is working from home, she can see right throughout the day who is working, what time they started and finished, how many hours they did etc.

I'll try not to. Considering the millions of tonnes of fruit & veg that are disposed of each year for such heinous acts as 'not being symmetrical enough' I don't particularly see it coming to pass. If I want strawberries this year they might be slightly misshaped. Ho-Hum.

Bless you and your selfish attitude my friend x
