I think you also need to mention that you live in the very rural Cornwall mate.

So cycling solo through quiet country lanes ( as long as you stay near to home ), isn`t the same as riding in a small group through built up areas.

*Yorkshire! ;)

But yes, I'm right on the edge of Wakefield. And on either side of me I have plenty of open space.

Just been on a ride then - an hour and half. I don't know if that's 'long' or not (I don't class it as) in the current climate.

For the first time in a few days, the roads were a lot quieter.

Obviously cycling on country roads comes with its own risks but I don't cycle with headphones in or anything daft. Just stick to the routes I know and be careful with my speed. At the moment I can't risk anything on this bike anyway so there's no point going hell for leather.

I knew it was somewhere rural lol

I've no doubt that you'll continue to go for your long bike rides, just as people will still go for a picnic in their local park, or will flock to markets or DIY stores when they're reopened. Ultimately only you, and everyone else, can decide if what you're doing is sensible, or whether you could do something else that would be less risky.

Okay mate, I see your point. I'm not wanting to argue, just pointing out I'm not doing anything wrong in getting my exercise in. I am cycling because I can't go on a run every day without causing myself injury. That's the reason. But I am enjoying it so when all this is over I'll take it up properly a bit more even when the gym comes back (I'm not a gym nut, but I do it to mix my exercise up in the main).

I don't think my 90 minute bike ride today on quiet roads and mainly off-road on the Trans-Pennine Trail / round a lake was particularly risky - it's a route I've been doing a lot of in the last month now so I know exactly where I am at all times. Have my repair kit with me etc. I went on my run yesterday in the afternoon and didn't see a soul walking or anything, but as I said I purposefully went away from anywhere that could be crowded so I didn't expect to.

there's a lot of appetite to slate the UK gov and, fairly so, for a lot of things including a shambolic response.

In terms of any country doing well - I don't think there's more than 3-4 cases of it, tbh.

Countries which have had to forcibly shut down entire populations should not be lauded. It reeks of a lack of funding into vaccines against previous epidemics, it reeks of lack of preparation when there was warning ths had been around for a few months etc.
No it doesn't.

Do you think western societies would've tolerated the kind of aggressive contact tracing the likes of S Korea and Taiwan have done? IMO I don't think they would mate.

I'm with you there but, ultimately, it's now what (in the UK at least) is going to happen, and is already happening in some cases. So it was always going to end up like that.

D'you know, for example, that the Facebook app (unless you turn it off) is automatically set to scan every other moment you're using your phone even when you're not using the app, and what you're doing it for?

Also, there's a setting deep inside the privacy settings on an iPhone which automatically tracks you anyway, unless you manually switch it off. It's a right arse to find but when you do it's freaky - tells you exactly where you've been, for how long, every single minute of every single day.

They're tracking us anyway. And even if you turn those settings off I'm sure at a flick of a switch companies can put them back on without you knowing. I'm appalled by the idea but, since the tech is already there and in action, we might as well have just used it.

All this was about saving lives. I still think the collective indefinite (think that's the key word) lockdowns of so many countries is going to lead to more lives being lost in the long run, even though I obviously hope not.

I expect that this will be the theme throughout the world :(

Ultimately, what's the point in living when you can't afford to as you've lost your job and the economy is down the pan meaning employment is nigh on impossible.

Mad to think that you'll never likely see anything like this again for a century maybe even longer.

Mad times.
They said that about storm flooding only 10 years ago , now we are slowly being advised that some areas will need to be abandoned... And I believe considering MERs SARs and now SARs2, what they meant was that they won't be in Government when the next arrives, and it will, well before 100 years. Hopefully we will have a serious Government next time.

I wouldn't get your hopes up

It'll probably be back again next year in a different format - Just originating from another wet market in China
Could well be Mexican wet market or Thailand wet market.

I think that’s great for keeping people from having bbq’s or street parties or whatever but from a mental health point of view I’d argue for many people some Nasty rainy weather isn’t going to help a number of them who are probably already struggling .

You are still allowed to walk in the rain - To be honest i'd love a week of rainy walks with no other knobheads around
